Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rickson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Hetfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Brazilian national anthem by Ill Nino. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rickson Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Hetfield!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hetfield changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gracie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Gracie is trying to control Hetfield's posture but Hetfield avoids it.
Gracie on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Gracie is looking for a sweep.

Hetfield is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gracie knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hetfield is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gracie is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hetfield stands up and we're back to a striking position.

It looks like Rickson Gracie has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nice takedown defense from Hetfield. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.

Gracie has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Oh, that's a big right hand from Hetfield and Gracie goes tumbling to the canvas! Hetfield follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hetfield wants to work for an arm triangle but Gracie is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hetfield tries to stand and escape but Gracie is controlling the position.
Gracie is looking to improve his position.
Hetfield stalling.
Hetfield tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Hetfield is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Gracie actively working from the bottom here.

Hetfield passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gracie!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Hetfield gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
A combination from Hetfield does no damage.
Hetfield misses with a two punch combination.

Hetfield scores with a takedown into Gracie's guard.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gracie looking for a guillotine here but Hetfield defends easily.

Gracie is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hetfield is aware though and is defending well.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Hetfield wanted to stand there but Gracie had control of the position.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hetfield defends well.
Hetfield landing some decent shots from guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hetfield got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hetfield has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.

Hetfield trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hetfield stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Hetfield looks to land a combination. Gracie sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


Rickson Gracie's cut is getting worse.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hetfield with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Hetfield throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease.
Hetfield rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gracie moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hetfield misses with a few strikes there.
Gracie walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Hetfield shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gracie manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Gracie is working an open guard so Hetfield takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hetfield cracks Gracie with an open hand slap.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Hetfield dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Rickson Gracie's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hetfield misses with a two punch combination.
Hetfield digs a good body shot into Gracie's ribs.
Hetfield connects with a jab.
Hetfield lands a nice hook to Gracie's body. Gracie takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hetfield cracks Gracie with an uppercut from hell and Gracie crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Hetfield's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!


Gracie is rocked!
Hetfield trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Oh Gracie is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Hetfield gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
James Hetfield seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Hetfield shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gracie seems to have got his legs back now.
Hetfield advances to half guard.
James Hetfield has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hetfield is trying to work for a kimura but Gracie is defending well.
Hetfield has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hetfield seems to be working for a kimura but Gracie defends the submission attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gracie looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Hetfield is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gracie is just riding it out for now. Hetfield eventually gives up the hold.

Hetfield maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Gracie could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Hetfield has cracked it and Gracie is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Hetfield!
