PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Burt King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Emelianenko might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Era - Enae Volare Mezzo. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fedor Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Burt King!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown but King shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Emelianenko fails with a takedown attempt.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Emelianenko tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Emelianenko to the ground. Emelianenko escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Emelianenko dives in and scores a takedown into King's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Emelianenko in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Emelianenko postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
King is trying to control the position from the bottom.
King trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
King wants to get back to his feet but Emelianenko is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
King pulls Emelianenko in to control the position.

King not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Burt King hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
King throws a head kick but Emelianenko moves out of range.
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Emelianenko misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from King.
King tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Emelianenko swivels and escapes.

King shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Emelianenko wants to improve his position but King is controlling well.
Emelianenko wants to control but King is keeping busy.
King stops Emelianenko from getting back to his feet.

Emelianenko is looking to improve his position.
Emelianenko is refusing to be controlled, as King sits in half guard.
King wants to stand up but Emelianenko is controlling the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

King looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
King is thwarting Emelianenko's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
King doesn't manage to clinch there - Emelianenko circles away.
Emelianenko closes the distance and clinches up with King, looking for a takedown. Emelianenko pushes King against the cage but King circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fedor Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
King throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Emelianenko's waist but Emelianenko gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing King off to one side.
King tries to close the distance and clinch but Emelianenko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Emelianenko scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Burt King has been cut.

King gets tackled into the cage by Emelianenko. Emelianenko maintains the clinch.
Emelianenko is looking to break free of the clinch but King has double underhooks.

Emelianenko closes the distance and clinches.

King drags the fight down to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!

King is looking for a triangle but Emelianenko pushes his legs off easily.
King looks winded!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
King wants to stand but Emelianenko is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Fedor Emelianenko will probably get the nod.

King circles away from the clinch attempt.
King fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
King shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Emelianenko pinned against the cage. Emelianenko gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Emelianenko tries to clinch but King is having none of it.

King has Emelianenko up against the cage in a clinch.
King tries to pull guard but Emelianenko won't allow it.
Fedor Emelianenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Burt King.

King is breathing heavily.
King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Emelianenko postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! King is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Emelianenko, into his guard.
Emelianenko is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst King is controlling him.

King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Emelianenko swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Emelianenko is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and King defends well.
King postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

King connects with a couple of short punches.
Emelianenko is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Emelianenko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
King controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Emelianenko gets the takedown into side control.
Emelianenko scores with a couple of short elbows.
King gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Emelianenko is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. King can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King connects with a leg kick. Emelianenko looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Emelianenko fakes high and swings low for a body shot but King manages to avoid it.
King shoots in but Emelianenko avoids the takedown attempt easily.
King tries to close the distance and clinch but Emelianenko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
King shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Emelianenko misses with a head kick.

Emelianenko stands up and beckons King to his feet.
King takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Emelianenko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Emelianenko dives in and grabs King's left leg, looking for a takedown. King pushes down on Emelianenko's head and hops out.

King moves into range and clinches up with Emelianenko.
King scores a nice knee to the body.
King is looking to control Emelianenko's arms but Emelianenko gets an underhook and turns him. Now King has his back to the cage.
Emelianenko tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. King smiles and moves away.
Emelianenko swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and King counters with a big head kick but Emelianenko shrugs it off.

Emelianenko darts in and clinches King up against the cage.
Emelianenko tries to pull guard but King forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fedor Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

King is trying to trip Emelianenko. He has hold of a leg but Emelianenko is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. King persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Emelianenko tries to land a sweep but no joy.
King must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
King wants to pass the guard but Emelianenko is keeping the position.
King trying to control but Emelianenko is working from the bottom.
Emelianenko looking to hit a scissor sweep but King is one step ahead there.
Fedor Emelianenko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Emelianenko is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

King slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
King tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Emelianenko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. King did well to prevent Emelianenko getting side control.
Emelianenko content to control rather than advance.
King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Fedor Emelianenko.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Emelianenko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
