PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Edward Campbell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ikki Rokusho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edward Campbell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ikki Rokusho!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Rokusho.
Campbell shoots in looking for a takedown but Rokusho manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Campbell's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rokusho throws a nice outside leg kick.
Rokusho ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Campbell walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Campbell has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Rokusho.
Ikki Rokusho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Rokusho, as that shot connected.
Campbell takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Campbell has Rokusho up against the ropes in a clinch.

Rokusho breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rokusho feints and then cracks Campbell's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Campbell down.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rokusho moves out of range of the strikes.
Campbell takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Rokusho connects with a single shot there.
Rokusho throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Campbell.
Campbell throws a big shot that misses.
Campbell avoids the head kick by Rokusho.

Rokusho moves out of range as Campbell strikes.
Campbell lands a jab-cross combination.
Rokusho throws a head kick that half lands.

Campbell swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Campbell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rokusho pinned against the ropes. Rokusho gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rokusho pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rokusho lands a leg kick that knocks Campbell off balance momentarily.
Rokusho fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Campbell on the side of the head.

Campbell looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Rokusho is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Campbell had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
A looping hook to the body misses from Rokusho. Campbell does a little dance to reset his feet.

Campbell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Rokusho is looking to regain half guard here but Campbell keeps moving and retains side control.

Campbell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Campbell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Rokusho is trying to buck Campbell off.
Rokusho gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Campbell with shots to the head and body - Rokusho looks very uncomfortable down there.
Rokusho tries to hold on but Campbell postures up.
Rokusho is squirming around, avoiding Campbell's attempts to control the action.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Campbell has control of Rokusho's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rokusho regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Rokusho tries to lock up and control but Campbell gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Campbell looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Rokusho is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rokusho can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rokusho has given up his back.
Rokusho manages to reverse the position and now he's in Campbell's guard. Nice work there by Rokusho.

Campbell seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Campbell utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rokusho throws a big elbow that misses.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ikki Rokusho dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rokusho connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Campbell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rokusho's waist but Rokusho gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Campbell off to one side.
Campbell is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rokusho.
Campbell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Campbell on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Rokusho. Rokusho obviously looking to wear him down.
Rokusho pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rokusho lands a glancing blow to the side of Campbell's head.
Rokusho throws a series of punches but Campbell avoids them all with ease.
Rokusho looks to land a combination. Campbell sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Oh Campbell is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Campbell walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Rokusho! Campbell is out on his feet! Rokusho rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Campbell is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Campbell is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ikki Rokusho!
After winning the bout, Ikki Rokusho thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
