Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Luke Gardner!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Philip Phillips!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gardner avoids a punch combination nicely.
Phillips scores with a jab to the body.
Phillips pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Gardner has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Phillips finds it's way round the side to connect with Gardner's head.
Gardner swings for the body but Phillips moves out of range.
Phillips swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Phillips misses with a series of wild punches.

and Gardner counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Gardner is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Phillips trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Phillips has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Phillips closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gardner quickly recovers to half guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Phillips is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gardner is just riding it out for now. Phillips eventually gives up the hold.

Phillips seems to be working for a kimura but Gardner defends the submission attempt.

Phillips is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Phillips is working for a kimura but Gardner is defending it quite comfortably.

Phillips is staying active underneath Gardner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Luke Gardner wasn't doing enough on the ground.

It looks like Philip Phillips has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Gardner counters with a big head kick but Phillips shrugs it off.

Gardner takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Phillips ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gardner moves away.
Phillips swings away with a body shot that misses
and Gardner connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Phillips pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gardner swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Phillips.
Gardner takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Phillips throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gardner.
Phillips moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


Gardner is rocked!
Philip Phillips seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Phillips fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Oh Gardner is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Phillips throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! Gardner crumples to the floor and the fight is over!

Philip Phillips spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
