PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wang Chung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kris Eccelston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chung comes to the cage accompanied by Everybody Have Fun Tonight. Wang Chung is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wang Chung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kris Eccelston!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chung throws a sloppy body shot
and Eccelston counters with a nice uppercut.
Chung tries to score a power double leg takedown but Eccelston sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chung somewhat.

Chung shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Eccelston is trying to defend but Chung finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Chung will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Still in half guard, Chung seems content to control.
Eccelston trying to hold on to Chung's head to control him but Chung postures up.
Eccelston is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Chung is staying active.
Eccelston tries to roll over but Chung keeps him under control.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Chung drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Chung wants to clinch up but Eccelston keeps it at a distance.
Eccelston thows a body shot but no joy.

Chung closes the distance and clinches.
Chung misses with a hook to the ribs.
Eccelston is trying to break the clinch but Chung is controlling him.
Eccelston blocks a body shot from Chung.
Chung tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Eccelston's elbow.
Chung is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Chung has Eccelston pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Chung pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Eccelston tumbling to the mat - Chung dives into Eccelston's guard.

Chung tries to free his leg and advance position but Eccelston is retaining full guard.

Eccelston isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Chung stacks Eccelston on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Chung!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Eccelston is letting Chung control him for a moment.
Eccelston can't do much from the bottom here.
Eccelston tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Chung wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Eccelston is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Chung's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Chung's back!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Eccelston has the hooks in. Chung is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Eccelston is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Chung knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Chung for a finish.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Eccelston is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Chung has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Chung tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kris Eccelston will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Chung closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Eccelston to the mat! Eccelston manages to get full guard.
Eccelston is trying to hold Chung in close to prevent damage but Chung has managed to pass into half guard.

Chung is looking for a kimura but Eccelston is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chung to get the leverage.
Eccelston has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Chung is working away from the top position though.
Eccelston has a hand on Chung's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Chung takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Kris Eccelston has got the better of the ground game so far.
Chung's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Chung looking to finish Eccelston with some ground and pound. This is bad for Eccelston!

Chung tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Wang Chung wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Chung looks to land a left hand but Eccelston moved out of range nicely.
Eccelston steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Chung.

Chung tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Eccelston was well out of range. Poor timing from Chung.

and Eccelston makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Chung gets a double leg takedown into Eccelston's guard.

Eccelston escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chung gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Chung slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Chung avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chung won't allow Eccelston to sweep him here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Eccelston is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wang Chung dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Chung tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Eccelston paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Chung closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Eccelston's guard.
Eccelston is trying to keep Chung in close.
Chung not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Chung has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Chung passes Eccelston's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Eccelston looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Chung pushes past his half guard into mount!

Chung takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Eccelston tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Chung presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Chung has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Wang Chung showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chung has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
