PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between El Senor Sox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Coleman Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mark Coleman Jr struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, El Senor Sox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Coleman Jr!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Alyssa Summers and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coleman Jr bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sox is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Coleman Jr's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Coleman Jr lands a nice short elbow.
Sox tries to get to full guard but Coleman Jr has control of the leg.
Sox is not content to let Coleman Jr control the position.
Coleman Jr passes to side control.
Coleman Jr cracks Sox with a big elbow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sox is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Coleman Jr has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Coleman Jr postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sox utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sox has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Coleman Jr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sox works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up because El Senor Sox just wasn't active enough.
Sox fails to land with a series of punches.
Coleman Jr throws a hook to the side of Sox's head but Sox sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Coleman Jr misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Coleman Jr gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Sox.
Coleman Jr closes the distance and clinches up with Sox, looking for a takedown. Coleman Jr pushes Sox against the cage but Sox circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
El Senor Sox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Coleman Jr.
Sox scores with the left hand. Coleman Jr knows he should have avoided that one.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sox clinches up against the cage.
Sox tries a body shot but Coleman Jr blocks it.
Coleman Jr wants to take the fight to the mat but Sox manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Coleman Jr tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sox just stands there and leans against the cage.
Sox tries to throw a body punch but Coleman Jr avoids it by throwing Sox back against the cage.
Coleman Jr tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sox smiles and moves away.
Sox lands the left hand.
El Senor Sox is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A punch combination from Sox misses.
Coleman Jr shoots and misses
and Coleman Jr takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Coleman Jr dodges the punch combination from Sox.
Sox tries to close the distance and clinch up but Coleman Jr swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sox looks to land a combination but Coleman Jr avoids it well.
Coleman Jr needs to keep his hands up - Sox had a free shot at his head there.

Coleman Jr shoots in for a takedown but Sox shows good takedown defense.

Coleman Jr drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sox tries to improve position but can't.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sox can't do much from the bottom here.
Sox is looking to reverse the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Coleman Jr working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Coleman Jr works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Check out the look on Coleman Jr's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that El Senor Sox will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Sox ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Coleman Jr moves away.
Sox throws a hook to the side of Coleman Jr's head but Coleman Jr sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
El Senor Sox is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Coleman Jr keeps the fight on the outside.
Sox slaps away a takedown attempt from Coleman Jr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Coleman Jr will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sox lands an overhand right.
Coleman Jr tries for a takedown but Sox circles away easily
and Sox counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
El Senor Sox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Coleman Jr.

Sox throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Coleman Jr shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sox slaps away a takedown attempt from Coleman Jr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Sox throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Coleman Jr throws a big right hand that misses.

Coleman Jr keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sox's head.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sox has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Coleman Jr off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Sox doesn't manage to clinch there - Coleman Jr circles away.

Coleman Jr shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sox as he avoids it easily.

Coleman Jr shoots in looking for a takedown. Sox tries to sprawl out of it but Coleman Jr keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sox manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mark Coleman Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coleman Jr is breathing heavily.
Decent striking displayed by Sox there.
Sox misses the shot to the body.
Coleman Jr misses with a takedown attempt - Sox sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Horrible takedown by Coleman Jr or perhaps it was just good defense by Sox which made him look bad.
Sox fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Coleman Jr is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sox.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sox tries to clinch up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

El Senor Sox dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Coleman Jr is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sox sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sox sizes up Coleman Jr with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Sox drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Coleman Jr's head, knocking him out cold! Sox is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.
