The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lesnar fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Maya shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Maya is looking to take a break and control but Lesnar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Maya is looking for a kimura but Lesnar is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maya to get the leverage.
Maya wants to free his trapped foot but Lesnar is holding on for dear life with his legs.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Maya closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Maya lands in his opponent's guard.

Maya fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lesnar sprawls well initially but Maya persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Lesnar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Maya asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
