The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alva looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Simms!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Simms is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Alva tries to move into full mount but can't pass Simms's legs.
Simms is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Alva is controlling him well.

Alva working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simms prevents Alva from improving position.

Alva thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
