PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Noah Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Locke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Noah Gunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Locke!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A leg kick checked by Gunn.

Gunn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gunn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Locke looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gunn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Noah Gunn just wasn't active enough.
Gunn moves out of range of the body kick.
Locke shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gunn counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gunn tries to pass to full mount but Locke defends it.

Gunn is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Gunn wants to pass to mount but Locke is defending the position.

Noah Gunn has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Locke misses with a takedown

and Gunn counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gunn.
Locke wants to get back to his feet but Gunn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Gunn being controlled here momentarily.
Gunn trying to control the position from guard on top but Locke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gunn tries to free his leg and advance position but Locke is retaining full guard.

Noah Gunn has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Locke shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gunn sprawls well. Gunn wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Locke gets slowly back to his feet.
Noah Gunn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Locke.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gunn shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gunn showed some decent athleticism there.

Locke is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gunn pulls his head out easily.

Gunn has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Gunn is trying to control. Locke wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Noah Gunn wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Locke gets caught flat footed, as Gunn shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Locke looking for a guillotine here but Gunn defends easily.

Locke working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gunn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Locke is tightening it up a little... Gunn has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Gunn reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Gunn taps out! Nice BJJ there by Locke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). John Locke!
Our winner, John Locke, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
