PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Unitas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tito Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ortiz has chosen Click Click Boom as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, David Unitas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tito Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Ortiz, as that shot connected.

Unitas shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ortiz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Unitas with a nice head shot there.
Unitas is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Unitas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Unitas slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Unitas looking to pass the guard.
Ortiz is looking to stand up but Unitas isn't so interested in that idea.
Ortiz keeping moving, preventing Unitas from controlling successfully.
Unitas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Unitas's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Unitas working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Unitas looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Ortiz keeping full guard, as Unitas tries to pass.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Unitas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Unitas postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Unitas wants to control from the top but Ortiz keeps moving.

Unitas drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ortiz dives on top into guard.

Ortiz won't allow Unitas to get back to his feet.
Unitas keeping moving, preventing Ortiz from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ortiz dodges the punch combination from Unitas.
Unitas throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ortiz stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Ortiz throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Ortiz fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ortiz tries to land a leg kick but Unitas saw it coming and moves away.
Unitas throws a looping overhand right but Ortiz ducks down to avoid it.
Unitas misses with a combination
and Ortiz counters with a solid body kick.
Unitas waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ortiz.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ortiz tries a head kick but it misses.
David Unitas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ortiz feints and then cracks Unitas's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Unitas down.
Unitas turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Unitas staying out of range there.
Ortiz throws a sloppy head kick and Unitas moves out of range easily.
Ortiz moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Unitas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ortiz circles away quickly and effectively.
Ortiz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Unitas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Unitas closes the distance and clinches up with Ortiz, looking for a takedown. Unitas pushes Ortiz against the cage but Ortiz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Unitas chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Ortiz can pounce on him.
A looping hook to the body misses from Unitas. Ortiz does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that David Unitas will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ortiz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Unitas paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ortiz shoots in for a takedown but Unitas shows good takedown defense.
Ortiz doesn't manage to clinch there - Unitas circles away.
Ortiz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Unitas's waist but Unitas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ortiz off to one side.
Unitas keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ortiz looks for a takedown but Unitas sprawls well.
David Unitas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tito Ortiz.
Unitas swats away the attempt to clinch by Ortiz.

Unitas closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ortiz quickly recovers to half guard.

Unitas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ortiz defends it well.
Ortiz is in trouble now - Unitas has advanced to mount!

Unitas looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Ortiz is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Unitas landing strikes from the mount.
Unitas won't let Ortiz get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Ortiz is squirming around, avoiding Unitas's attempts to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Unitas is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Ortiz has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Ortiz!
Unitas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ortiz manages to get himself to full guard.
Ortiz wants to get back to his feet but Unitas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
David Unitas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Unitas with a flurry of punches that miss.
Unitas tries to free his leg and advance position but Ortiz is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ortiz utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Unitas cracks Ortiz with a solid left hand.
Ortiz has momentary wrist control but Unitas slips an elbow through the middle.
Unitas advances to half guard.
Unitas moves into full mount! Ortiz won't be happy about that!
Unitas is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ortiz can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Unitas working for a submission but Ortiz is keeping him at bay.

You get the feeling that Ortiz really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Unitas jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Ortiz is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Ortiz and Unitas has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Unitas is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Ortiz is trying to escape and Unitas transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Ortiz is forced to tap! Nice work there by Unitas! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). David Unitas!
A very excited looking David Unitas made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
