Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Teriyaki Sukihara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauro Garza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Teriyaki Sukihara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mauro Garza!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sukihara closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sukihara lands in his opponent's guard.

Garza had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Sukihara is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Garza Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Sukihara's back instead.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Garza seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Garza gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Garza drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Garza decides to stand back up. Garza steps back and let's Sukihara get back to his feet.

Sukihara gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sukihara looking to hit a scissor sweep but Garza is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sukihara working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Garza doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Garza manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sukihara is in trouble now - Garza has advanced to mount!
Garza tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Garza shoots in but no luck this time.
Sukihara doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Garza counters with a head kick.
Sukihara throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Teriyaki Sukihara is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Garza stuffs the takedown.

and Garza counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Garza is trying to stick to Sukihara's back but Sukihara is turning into Garza. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Garza's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Sukihara.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sukihara wants to work for an arm triangle but Garza is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Sukihara is looking for a kimura but Garza is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sukihara to get the leverage.
Garza is trying to maintain the position but Sukihara is very close to passing his half guard.
Garza wants to improve his position but Sukihara is controlling well.

Garza looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mauro Garza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Garza looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sukihara is fending him off so far but Garza persists. Nope, Sukihara circles away and we're back to standing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sukihara manages to reverse the position and now he's in Garza's guard. Nice work there by Sukihara.
Sukihara is looking to work some ground and pound but Garza has wrist control.

Garza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sukihara stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Garza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Garza is on top in guard.

and Garza counters with a shoot takedown. Sukihara fights it but they end up in guard.
Garza is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Garza stands and throws Sukihara's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sukihara looks to move to half guard but instead Garza has passed into mount! Damn!

Sukihara drops back looking for a leg! Garza is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Garza manages to kick Sukihara off! Sukihara jumps back into Garza's guard.

Sukihara drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Garza dives on top into guard.

Mauro Garza comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Garza has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
