PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hearst Helmsley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peterson comes to the cage accompanied by The Fire Rises. The key to victory for Michael Peterson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hearst Helmsley!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Helmsley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Peterson's waist but Peterson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Helmsley off to one side.
Helmsley avoids a kick to the body.

Helmsley shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Peterson is trying to control but can't.
Peterson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Helmsley connects with a nice short shot to Peterson's temple.
Helmsley not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Helmsley is working for a submission of some sort.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Helmsley connects with a nice short shot to Peterson's temple.

Helmsley wants to get up but he can't break Peterson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Peterson is working an open guard so Helmsley takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Peterson. No joy for Helmsley on that attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Helmsley will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Michael Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hearst Helmsley.

Helmsley feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Peterson wants to stand but Helmsley is controlling the position.
Helmsley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Peterson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hearst Helmsley dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Helmsley bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Helmsley scores with a couple of short elbows.


Peterson is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Helmsley lands a strong strike to the head of Peterson. That's dazed him! Helmsley looking to finish here. Peterson is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Helmsley lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hearst Helmsley!
During a confident post fight interview, Hearst Helmsley thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
