PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Stubb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bill Boon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stubb kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Paper Scratcher. Michael Stubb has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Stubb!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bill Boon!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stubb closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Boon did well to prevent Stubb getting side control.
Stubb prevents Boon from improving his position.
Boon is refusing to be controlled, as Stubb sits in half guard.
Boon is looking to control Stubb's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Boon avoid being mounted?
Boon wants to improve his position but Stubb is controlling well.

Stubb is trying to work for a kimura but Boon is defending well.
Stubb is pressing down on Boon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Boon is holding on for now.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Boon pushes Stubb off looking to stand but Stubb dives back in and keeps control.

Stubb manages to capitalize on a mistake by Boon to take his back!

Stubb is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Boon is defending well though. Stubb let's go of the attempt for now.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Stubb is not going to allow Boon to sit and survive in this position.
Boon is trying to break free.
Boon trying to get back to his feet but Stubb is in full control for now.
Stubb has the hooks in. Boon is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Stubb seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Boon's chin but Boon turns very nicely into Stubb's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Boon.

Stubb has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Boon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Boon wants to clinch up but Stubb keeps it at a distance.
Boon throws a low kick but it's checked well by Stubb.
Boon looks to land a combination but Stubb avoids it well.

Michael Stubb overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Stubb is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Boon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Stubb wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boon keeps working.
Boon tries to buck Stubb off but Stubb is having none of it.
Stubb has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Boon!
Boon is squirming around, avoiding Stubb's attempts to control the action.
Stubb is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Boon is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Boon wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Stubb is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Boon can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Stubb can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Boon is looking to escape.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Boon keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Stubb tries to control but Boon wriggling away.
Stubb controlling the pace for now.

Stubb has control of Boon's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Boon regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Boon wants to try and get back to his feet.
Stubb is trying to control here but Boon has managed to regain half guard.
Stubb wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boon keeps working.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Boon fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Stubb.
An inside leg kick lands from Boon.
Boon throws a right hand that Stubb ducks under and follows up with a left that Stubb also avoids with ease.
Boon goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Stubb ducks right into an uppercut from Boon.
Boon lands a body shot.
Stubb tries to clinch up but Boon circles away and keeps his distance.
Boon throws a right and a left that Stubb avoids nicely.
Stubb shoots in for a double leg but Boon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Stubb misses with a takedown attempt - Boon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Boon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boon bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Boon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Boon!

Boon lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Stubb at a distance.
That kick from Boon tenderised Stubb's leg. Stubb is trying to keep his angry face on.
Boon connects with a leg kick. Stubb looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Sloppy strikes from Boon. Those never looked like landing.
Boon lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Boon misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Boon is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Stubb is staying active.

Stubb is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Boon defends it well.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Boon can't do much from the bottom here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stubb has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
