PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dupree Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage comes into the arena with Bon Jovi - It's my life blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jackson Savage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dupree Owens!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Savage fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Owens avoids it really well and circles away.
Owens tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Savage paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Savage throws a head kick that half lands.
Owens blocks a head kick by Savage.
Savage misses with a head kick.
Owens looks to score with a jab to the body but Savage is just out of range.

Savage looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Owens is looking to improve his position.
Savage prevents Owens from standing back up.

Owens keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Owens is defending against the submission attempts here by Savage.

Savage is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Owens doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Savage.

Savage shoots in for a double leg but Owens sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

It looks like Dupree Owens has been cut.
Savage tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Savage shoots in looking for a takedown. Owens tries to sprawl out of it but Savage keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Owens manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Owens lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like Jackson Savage has been cut.
Owens scores with a nice right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Savage walks into a stiff left hand from Owens.
The fighters circling - Owens throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Savage stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Savage wants it to stay on the feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Savage shoots in and drives through. Owens sprawls well.
Savage uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Owens.

Owens connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Owens shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Savage defends it nicely.

and Savage counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Savage pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Owens is keeping the position for now.

Savage drops back looking for a leg! Owens is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Owens manages to kick Savage off! Savage jumps back into Owens's guard.

Savage thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Savage accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Savage won't allow Owens to get back to his feet.
Savage forces his way into half guard.
Owens is not content to let Savage control the position.

Savage is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Owens is just riding it out for now. Savage eventually gives up the hold.

Savage looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Savage wants to pass to mount but Owens is defending the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dupree Owens will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Savage escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Owens gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Savage has a closed guard, preventing Owens from standing up.
Savage is controlling Owens's posture.
Owens must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Savage has his foot on Owens's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Owens works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Owens is fighting to break Savage's control of his arms but Savage is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Savage tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Savage looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Owens puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Savage gets back to full guard.

Owens is stalling in the full guard.

Jackson Savage spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
