PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Molen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Molen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ortiz jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Sloppy strikes from Ortiz. Those never looked like landing.

Molen moves into the clinch.
Ortiz is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Ortiz gets underhooks to prevent Molen's takedown attempt.
The referee calls for Molen to work.
Ortiz has had enough of the clinch but Molen keeps him there for the moment.
Ortiz scores a nice knee to the body.
Molen is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Molen breaks from the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ortiz lands with a shot to the body.
Ortiz lands a nice looking body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ortiz. Molen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ortiz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Ortiz jabs Molen to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Molen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ortiz circles away.
A jab from Molen does it's job there.
Ortiz paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Horrible takedown by Molen or perhaps it was just good defense by Ortiz which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Molen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ortiz tries to keep at a distance but Molen has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ortiz blocks the elbow strike.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Molen lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Molen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Ortiz has managed to free his arm - good work.
Ortiz is refusing to be controlled, as Molen sits in half guard.
Ortiz trying to hold on to Molen's head to control him but Molen postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ortiz wants to control but Molen passes into side.
Molen working away.
You can see the frustration on Ortiz's face as Molen controls the position.
Ortiz tries to improve position but can't.

Molen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Molen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Molen decides to stand back up. Molen steps back and let's Ortiz get back to his feet.
Molen has a takedown stuffed.

Molen closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ortiz did well to prevent Molen getting side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Molen is nestled in close to Ortiz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Molen looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Molen dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ortiz misses the shot to the body.
Ortiz throws a series of punches but Molen moves out of range.
Ortiz misses with a two punch combination.
Ortiz punishes Molen's body with a nice straight punch.

Molen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ortiz on his heels. He'll look to pass Ortiz's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Molen engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Ortiz is looking to stand up but Molen isn't so interested in that idea.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ortiz holds on and takes a little breather.
Ortiz is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ortiz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Molen.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ortiz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A combination from Ortiz does no damage.
Ortiz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ortiz takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Ortiz gets tackled into the cage by Molen. Molen maintains the clinch.

Molen gets control of Ortiz's arms and successfully pulls guard. Molen will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Molen looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Ortiz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Molen uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Molen shoots in for a takedown but Ortiz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Molen gets a clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ortiz is looking to control Molen's arms but Molen gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ortiz has his back to the cage.

Molen gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Ortiz keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Molen is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Ground and pound from Molen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Molen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ortiz for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jason Molen.
Molen lands a leg kick that knocks Ortiz off balance momentarily.

Molen has managed to clinch.

Molen pulls guard effortlessly.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ortiz is posturing up here but Molen has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Ortiz tries to roll out but it's too tight and Ortiz has to tap! Slick submission there by Molen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jason Molen!
