PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Umair Kayani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacinto Koutras (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Umair Kayani!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jacinto Koutras!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kayani lands a lovely overhand right.


It looks like Jacinto Koutras has been cut.
Koutras looks to score with a jab to the body but Kayani is just out of range.
Kayani tries to bum rush Koutras with a series of wild strikes but Koutras uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A telegraphed right hand from Kayani misses the target.
Kayani swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Koutras should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Kayani throws a right hand that Koutras ducks under and follows up with a left that Koutras also avoids with ease.
Koutras shoots in for a takedown but Kayani shows good takedown defense.
Kayani connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kayani throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Umair Kayani seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Koutras misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Koutras is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Koutras shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kayani manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kayani is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Koutras is controlling him.

Koutras seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kayani wants to stand and escape but Koutras is having none of it.
Koutras is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jacinto Koutras was stalling too much, according to the referee.
No joy there for Kayani, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Koutras manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Koutras bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kayani's guard.

Koutras postures up in Kayani's guard and throws a big left but Kayani blocks it.

Koutras must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Koutras is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kayani is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Kayani lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Koutras circles away quickly and effectively.

Kayani throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Koutras makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Kayani throws a lazy right hand but Koutras sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Koutras tries to clinch there but Kayani circles away.
Kayani fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Koutras manages to avoid it.
Kayani fails to land with a series of punches.

Koutras tries to close the distance and clinch but Kayani swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Koutras shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kayani is trying to defend but Koutras finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Koutras is keen to just control but Kayani is a slippery customer.

Kayani pushes Koutras off looking to stand but Koutras dives back in and keeps control.

Koutras tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Koutras has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Koutras is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kayani has escaped the position, nice work there.

Koutras goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Kayani is on top in guard.

Kayani won't allow Koutras to sweep him here.

Jacinto Koutras comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Koutras has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
