PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Bravo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Break Stuff kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Johnny Bravo has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Bravo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Ward!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bravo shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Bravo really is a fat lump.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bravo not landing any meaningful shots this time.
It looks like Bravo is going to stand back up.
Bravo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bravo in particular looking to stall.
Ward is not content to let Bravo control the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Johnny Bravo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Ward tries for a takedown but Bravo circles away easily

so Bravo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ward wants to sweep but no luck.
Bravo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Bravo advances position into side control!

Bravo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ward knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ward tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bravo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bravo wants to stand but Ward is controlling his arm.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bravo in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Ward parries the strikes from Bravo easily there. Bravo is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ward to escape.

Bravo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ward is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bravo tries to stand but Ward controls the position and pulls Bravo into his guard.

Ward controls Bravo momentarily but Bravo frees himself.

Bravo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Bravo dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bravo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ward shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bravo pinned against the cage. Bravo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ward.
Bravo slaps away a takedown attempt from Ward, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Johnny Bravo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Ward.

Bravo clinches up with Ward and pushes him back against the cage.
Ward is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Bravo lands a takedown into guard.
Bravo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ward is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bravo wanted to stand there but Ward had control of the position.

Ward can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bravo controls the pace.
Bravo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Ward shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bravo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Bravo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ward gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ward postures up.

Ward trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Ward postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bravo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ward, into his guard.
Bravo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Bravo throws a big elbow that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bravo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Ward keeping moving, preventing Bravo from controlling successfully.

We're going to have a standup here because Johnny Bravo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bravo.
Bravo trying to control the action but Ward is working from the bottom.

Bravo content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Bravo passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Ward!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Bravo dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Ward defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bravo.
Bravo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bravo wants it to stay on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ward.
Bravo tries to clinch there but Ward circles away.

Bravo gets a takedown into half guard.
Bravo thows a huge punch but Ward dodges it nicely.
Ward is staying active underneath Bravo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Bravo tries to stand but can't do so whilst Ward controls his leg.

Bravo lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Bravo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Bravo moves nicely into side control.
Ward tries to bench press Bravo off him but Bravo keeps the position.
Johnny Bravo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bravo working the head and body with strikes.
Peter Ward has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Bravo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ward sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Bravo postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Bravo throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Ward tries to buck Bravo off but Bravo is having none of it.
Ward takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bravo tries to move to mount but Ward blocks the move with his legs.
An elbow from Bravo crashes against the mat.

Ward regains half guard there - taking advantage of Bravo's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Bravo trying to control the pace.
Bravo not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Johnny Bravo just wasn't active enough.

Bravo looking to score a takedown here. Ward is defending well but Bravo drives through and ends up in Ward's guard.

Ward is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bravo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bravo advances position into side control!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Bravo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
