PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Udo Hitzlsperger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Cua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rick Cua told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Udo Hitzlsperger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Cua!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Jorge Garcia and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hitzlsperger lands a jab to Cua's midsection.
Hitzlsperger dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Hitzlsperger feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hitzlsperger postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hitzlsperger accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hitzlsperger working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Cua utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hitzlsperger looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Hitzlsperger throwing strikes from guard but Cua blocks nicely.
Hitzlsperger stops Cua from standing up.
Hitzlsperger trying to control the position from guard on top but Cua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Udo Hitzlsperger.
Hitzlsperger connects with a body shot.
Hitzlsperger scores with a sloppy right hand. Cua should have avoided that one.

Hitzlsperger scores with a takedown into Cua's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hitzlsperger trying to control but Cua is working from the bottom.
Cua really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hitzlsperger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cua utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hitzlsperger working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hitzlsperger trying to control but Cua is working from the bottom.
Hitzlsperger slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Hitzlsperger throws a big right hand that misses.
Hitzlsperger trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hitzlsperger engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Hitzlsperger working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cua avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fighters circle momentarily. Hitzlsperger darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Hitzlsperger paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Cua takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cua has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Hitzlsperger.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hitzlsperger lands a nice hook to Cua's body. Cua takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Udo Hitzlsperger dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Hitzlsperger thuds a left hand into Cua's body.
Cua takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Hitzlsperger takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.


Cua is rocked!
Cua circles to his right, straight into a beautiful hook by Hitzlsperger. Cua falls face first into the canvas - great knockout victory for Hitzlsperger!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Udo Hitzlsperger!
Udo Hitzlsperger thanked the fans post fight for their support.
