PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lenny Bronson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vasily Jirov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bronson is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Lenny Bronson is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Lenny Bronson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Vasily Jirov!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Chris Edwards and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bronson throws a lazy right hand but Jirov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Bronson is breathing heavily.
Bronson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jirov sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Jirov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bronson's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jirov advances to half guard.
Jirov perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jirov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Jirov is taking a breather. Bronson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Bronson is trying to escape back to his feet but Jirov uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Bronson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Jirov.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jirov works to advance to full mount. Bronson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Bronson wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jirov is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Bronson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Jirov postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Bronson looks a forlorn figure.

Jirov is working for a guillotine from mount but Bronson frees his head quite easily.

Jirov is looking for the choke from the back position but Bronson is controlling his hands well.

Jirov lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Bronson hold on?!
Jirov is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jirov is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Bronson. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Jirov is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Bronson knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Bronson for a finish.

Jirov has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Bronson's body.

Jirov throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
What can Bronson do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
It looks like Jirov might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Jirov is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Bronson is defending well though. Jirov let's go of the attempt for now.

Bronson covers up after that shot from Jirov.

Jirov is persistently looking for the submission but Bronson is defending it well.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jirov is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

What can Bronson do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Jirov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jirov lands in his opponent's guard.

Jirov stands up and waves to Bronson to follow him.
Jirov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bronson's waist but Bronson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jirov off to one side.
No luck for Jirov with that takedown attempt.
Jirov shoots in but Bronson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lenny Bronson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vasily Jirov.
Bronson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jirov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Bronson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Bronson gets caught flat footed, as Jirov shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jirov decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bronson, up you get!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jirov moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jirov.
Jirov fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jirov misses with a takedown attempt - Bronson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jirov is looking to clinch.
Jirov lands a jab-cross combination.
Jirov shoots for a double leg takedown but Bronson sprawls well. He's pushed Jirov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jirov is defended easily by Bronson.

Horrible takedown by Jirov or perhaps it was just good defense by Bronson which made him look bad.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jirov changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bronson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
A lull in the action here as Jirov stalls from top position.

Jirov decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Jirov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bronson keeps the fight on the outside.
Jirov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Bronson throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Jirov to counter with a crisp jab.
Jirov tries to clinch there but Bronson circles away.

Jirov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bronson was covering up waiting for the punch and Jirov finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Jirov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jirov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bronson's guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jirov's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Jirov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bronson's head.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Bronson pushes Jirov off but Jirov dives into side control.

Bronson wants to get back to his feet but Jirov is dominant here and he's now got Bronson's back!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Jirov throws a leg kick which misses Bronson's front leg but catches the back leg as Bronson tries to avoid it.

Lenny Bronson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vasily Jirov.
Jirov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bronson avoids it really well and circles away.
Jirov stalks Bronson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bronson's face. Bronson staggers backwards, shaken.
Jirov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bronson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jirov somewhat.
Vasily Jirov seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Jirov has had enough of the clinch but Bronson keeps him there for the moment.
Lenny Bronson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jirov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

and Bronson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Jirov is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bronson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Vasily Jirov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jirov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
