PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Awesome Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Glover Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Glover Silva told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Awesome Kong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Glover Silva!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Paulo Santos.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kong closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Kong getting side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Silva pushes Kong off looking to stand but Kong dives back in and keeps control.
Well, if Kong is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Silva is looking for a sweep. Kong is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kong looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kong content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kong connects with a nice short shot to Silva's temple.

It looks like Glover Silva has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kong is working for a submission of some sort.
Kong tries to pass to full mount but Silva defends it.

Kong lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Kong is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Silva wants to get back to his feet.
Kong prevents Silva from improving his position.
Silva won't allow Kong to pass to mount.

Kong seems to be looking for submissions.
Kong performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Kong thows a huge punch but Silva dodges it nicely.
Kong looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Silva wants to get back to his feet.

Kong is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Silva has managed to free his arm - good work.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kong is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Silva wants to get back to his feet.
Kong lands strikes from half guard.

That has opened up Glover Silva's cut even more.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kong lands a nice short elbow.

Kong is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Silva is just riding it out for now. Kong eventually gives up the hold.
Silva wants to get back to full guard.
Kong is taking a breather. Silva says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kong blocks the strikes from Silva.

Kong controlling the action here.
Kong works his foot free and advances to mount.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kong looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Awesome Kong dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Glover Silva's cut.
That's time! Kong's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Kong counters with a single leg into guard. Silva didn't expect that.

Kong is working Silva over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kong is looking to advance position but Silva won't allow it.

Silva is breathing heavily.
Kong controlling the action here.
Kong prevents Silva from standing back up.

Kong looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Silva on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Silva avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kong.
Silva is trying to maintain the position but Kong is very close to passing his half guard.

Kong is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Silva doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kong.
Kong takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Kong's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Silva is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Silva takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Glover Silva's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Glover Silva's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
