PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Booker T (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edwards has chosen Tick Tick Boom as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Booker T!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Edwards!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Edwards closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming T to the mat! T manages to get full guard.
Edwards wants to control from the top but T keeps moving.
Edwards looking to sit in guard and control but T gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Edwards trying to control the position.

Edwards looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Edwards working a defensive guard here.
Edwards pulls T in close to his closed guard and prevents T from doing any damage or advancing position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Edwards looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

T fails with the takedown

and Edwards counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Edwards wants to pass to mount but T is defending the position.
Edwards passes to full mount!
Edwards wants to control the action but instead T gets a body lock and reverses into Edwards's guard! Nice work!

Edwards looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Edwards controls T momentarily but T frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Edwards dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


T doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Edwards counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for T!
Edwards takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
T manages to regain half guard. Good work.

T looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Edwards pushes past his half guard into mount!

Edwards looking to control and managing it successfully.
Edwards's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Edwards trying to control but T is having none of it.
Edwards tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Edwards tries to control but T wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Despite being in the dominant position, Juan Edwards just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

T closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Edwards to the mat! Edwards manages to get full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Edwards looking to control.
T won't allow Edwards to sweep him here.

Edwards is looking for a triangle but T pushes his legs off easily.

T drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Edwards dives on top into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



T feints and as Edwards raises his hands in defense, T changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Edwards is trying to keep T in close.
Edwards is looking to stand up but T isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edwards controls T momentarily but T frees himself.

Edwards looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Edwards looking to control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Edwards tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Edwards darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Edwards is keen to just control but T is a slippery customer.

T actively working from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Edwards has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Edwards wants to take T's back here but T is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Juan Edwards comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Edwards winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
