Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis lands with a kick to the ribs.
Pettis turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Pettis throws a sloppy head kick and Velasquez moves out of range easily.
No luck for Velasquez with that takedown attempt.
Velasquez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pettis circles away.
Pettis scores with a head kick. Velasquez tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Velasquez avoids the head kick by Pettis.
Velasquez closes the distance and clinches up with Pettis, looking for a takedown. Velasquez pushes Pettis against the cage but Pettis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jake Pettis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kain Velasquez.
Velasquez misses with a takedown
and Pettis counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Velasquez is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Velasquez avoids a kick to the body.
Pettis throws a head kick but Velasquez moves out of range.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pettis plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Velasquez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Velasquez shoots in looking for a takedown. Pettis tries to sprawl out of it but Velasquez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pettis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Pettis feints a jab promting Velasquez to slip. Pettis then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Velasquez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Velasquez closes the distance and clinches up with Pettis, looking for a takedown. Velasquez pushes Pettis against the cage but Pettis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Velasquez shoots in but Pettis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Velasquez looks winded!
Velasquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Pettis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Velasquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Velasquez blocks a head kick by Pettis.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Pettis.
Pettis pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Pettis fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown but Pettis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pettis jabs at Velasquez's body.
A head kick from Pettis lands but Velasquez takes it in his stride.
Pettis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pettis lands a right hook to the body.
A thudding body kick lands there by Pettis!
Jake Pettis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pettis throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Pettis lands a nice looking body shot.
Velasquez steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Pettis. That one must have hurt.

Pettis looks to land a combination but Velasquez avoids it well.
Pettis lands with a cross.
Pettis throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown but Pettis shows good takedown defense.
Pettis explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Pettis throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Nice takedown defense from Pettis. No joy for Velasquez on that attempt.
Pettis tests Velasquez's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Pettis scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Velasquez doesn't seem bothered though.
Velasquez has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Pettis.
Pettis lands with a kick to the temple. Velasquez shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Velasquez sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Pettis throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Pettis lands a nice shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pettis lands with a kick to the temple. Velasquez shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
A kick lands to the mid section there for Pettis.
Velasquez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Pettis counters with a body kick.
Velasquez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pettis avoids it really well and circles away.
Velasquez fails to land the takedown.
Pettis throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Velasquez.
Pettis lets loose with a powerful body kick. Velasquez will feel that in the morning.
Velasquez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Pettis moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Pettis tries a head kick but it misses.

Pettis throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Velasquez closes the distance and clinches up with Pettis, looking for a takedown. Velasquez pushes Pettis against the cage but Pettis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Pettis lands with a kick to the temple. Velasquez shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pettis lands with a nice combination. Velasquez backs away looking to recover.


Velasquez is rocked!
Pettis cracks Velasquez with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Velasquez tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Pettis pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Velasquez is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake Pettis!
