PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Seamus Omalley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kato Munechika (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Munechika has chosen Requiem for a Dream as his entrance music. Kato Munechika is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Seamus Omalley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kato Munechika!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Munechika just misses with a punch to the body.
Munechika bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Munechika tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Omalley is able to avoid easily.
Munechika throws a leg kick but Omalley sees it coming and moves out of range.
Munechika throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Munechika throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Munechika lands a nice hook to Omalley's body. Omalley takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Omalley shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Munechika pinned against the cage. Munechika gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Munechika swings for the body but Omalley moves out of range.
Munechika digs a good body shot into Omalley's ribs.
Omalley shoots in for a takedown but Munechika shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Munechika cracks the inside of Omalley's front leg.
Munechika keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Omalley shoots in for a takedown but Munechika shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Munechika lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Omalley looking to score a takedown here. Munechika is defending well but Omalley drives through and ends up in Munechika's guard.

Munechika can't keep his opponent in guard - Omalley advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Munechika wants to control but Omalley is keeping busy.

Omalley seems to be working for a kimura but Munechika defends the submission attempt.
Omalley tries to pass to full mount but Munechika defends it.

Omalley tries to pass the half guard into mount. Munechika knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Munechika is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Omalley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Munechika swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Munechika pulls Omalley in close to prevent any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Omalley misses with a low kick.
Munechika throws a jab when Omalley was well out of range.

Omalley shoots in and gets a takedown into Munechika's guard.
Munechika looking to hit a scissor sweep but Omalley is one step ahead there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Omalley drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Omalley wants to control from the top but Munechika keeps moving.
Munechika is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Omalley drops back looking for a leg! Munechika is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Munechika manages to kick Omalley off! Omalley jumps back into Munechika's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Munechika is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Omalley is trying to get back to full guard.
Munechika wants to lay and pray for a moment but Omalley keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Munechika wants to get back to his feet but Omalley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Omalley is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Omalley takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Omalley is working for a kimura but Munechika is defending it quite comfortably.
Munechika is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Omalley is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Munechika is just riding it out for now. Omalley eventually gives up the hold.
Munechika is not content to let Omalley control the position.

Omalley is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Munechika has managed to free his arm - good work.
Munechika tries to get to full guard but Omalley has control of the leg.

Munechika is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Omalley's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Omalley's back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Munechika lands a jab to Omalley's midsection.
Munechika shoots in looking for a takedown but Omalley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Munechika's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Munechika leaves Omalley with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Munechika tries to score with a low kick but Omalley moves his leg out of the way.
Munechika ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Omalley moves away.
A nice leg kick lands there from Munechika.
Omalley shoots in and drives through. Munechika sprawls well.
Horrible takedown by Omalley or perhaps it was just good defense by Munechika which made him look bad.

Omalley is rocked!
Munechika loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Omalley scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Munechika land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Munechika stands and salutes the crowd.
