PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Colon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kim Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Colon comes to the cage accompanied by let the bodies hit the floor. Kim Smith struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 172.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Roberto Colon could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Kim Smith's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kim Smith!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jorge Garcia and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith tries to clinch but Colon moves out of range.

and Colon counters with a thumping low kick.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

and Colon counters with a straight right hand.

Smith clinches up with Colon and pushes him back against the cage.

Smith ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Smith no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Colon jumps guard and drags Smith to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Colon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

and Colon counters with a single leg into guard. Smith didn't expect that.

Colon is really struggling to control Smith but he's trying to hold on to the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Colon drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!

Smith decides to stand back up. Smith steps back and let's Colon get back to his feet.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Colon is trying to pull guard but Smith turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Colon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Colon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. Colon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Smith tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Colon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Colon has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Smith is trying to keep an underhook but Colon manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Colon is looking for a kimura but Smith is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Colon to get the leverage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith is looking for a sweep. Colon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Smith has one foot on Colon's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That was a close second round but I would say that Roberto Colon will probably get the nod.

Colon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Colon has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted.
