PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between kimo lupido (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denis Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Denis Kang is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, kimo lupido!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Denis Kang!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
lupido fails with an attempt to clinch.

Kang shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in lupido's guard.
Kang trying to control the position from guard on top but lupido is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

lupido working for a triangle but Kang defends it easily.
Kang wants to get up but he can't break lupido's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Kang pushes down on lupido's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Kang is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
lupido won't allow Kang to pass to mount.
lupido is not content to let Kang control the position.
Kang working lupido over with strikes.
Kang tries to pass to full mount but lupido defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
lupido is looking to control Kang's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can lupido avoid being mounted?
Kang wants to lay and pray for a moment but lupido keeps working.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kang wants to pass to mount but lupido is defending the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
lupido shoots and misses

and Kang counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
lupido is breathing heavily.

lupido is working an open guard so Kang takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Kang shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
lupido is staying active underneath Kang, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kang missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kang is looking to take a break and control but lupido is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kang prevents lupido from improving his position.
Kang performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Kang seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but lupido does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kang really doesn't want to stay on the ground with lupido. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

lupido is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Kang pulls his head out easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
lupido shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kang counters with a takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on lupido's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kang tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
lupido tries to escape but Kang is in control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denis Kang dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Kang fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. lupido sprawls well initially but Kang persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kang is just content to waste time from the top position. lupido takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Kang trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

lupido had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kang is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. lupido Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kang's back instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kang trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
lupido wants to control but Kang manages to buck him off and is now in lupido's guard! Nice work there by Kang!

Kang advances position into side control!
Kang wants to control but lupido is keeping him busy.
Kang cracks lupido with an elbow. That is naaassty.
lupido gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Kang has hold of lupido's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and lupido manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Kang has control of lupido's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and lupido regains control of the situation pretty easily.
lupido squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kang lands with some strikes.
Kang wants to control the pace but lupido is squirming around nicely.
Kang sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
lupido is trying desperately to improve position.

Kang is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, lupido has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Kang unloading with bombs!

Kang is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Kang misses with a takedown attempt - lupido sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
lupido misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

lupido gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Denis Kang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Kang closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Kang tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Kang has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
lupido doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kang decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in lupido's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. lupido swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kang drops back, looking for a kneebar! lupido looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. lupido looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from lupido!

lupido tries for a kimura but Kang is defending well.

lupido tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no lupido has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
lupido trying to control the action but Kang is working from the bottom.
Kang tries to bench press lupido off him but lupido keeps the position.
You can see the frustration on Kang's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
lupido will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kang misses with a strike from the bottom.

Kang lying in lupido's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. lupido decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Kang taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
