PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between David Pony (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian McCusker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Pony!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian McCusker!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCusker has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from McCusker there as he acknowledges the shot.
Pony looks to land a left hand but McCusker moved out of range nicely.
McCusker shoots in for a takedown but Pony shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pony throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
McCusker bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Pony's head backwards.
McCusker uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pony.
Pony shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McCusker defends it nicely.
McCusker fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
David Pony seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McCusker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
McCusker wants to control from the top but Pony keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pony wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
McCusker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Pony lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for McCusker!
Pony putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pony is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Pony with shots to the head and body - McCusker looks very uncomfortable down there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pony controlling the pace for now.
McCusker is in a horrible position here. Pony smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Pony fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Pony looking to control and managing it successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McCusker is working to get back to half guard.

Pony looking to isolate an arm here. McCusker doesn't see it coming and as Pony extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Pony!
