PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tesco Vee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clay Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vee's entrance music is Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple man. A fine choice. Mercer has chosen Kid CuDi - Wylin Cuz I'm Young as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vee misses with a double jab.
Vee cracks Mercer with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Mercer throws a hook but Vee avoids it easily.
Mercer defending well as Vee loads up on a big left hand.

Mercer pushes off an throws an elbow but Vee leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Mercer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vee blocks a low kick nicely.
Clay Mercer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Vee drives through with a takedown into Mercer's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Vee postures up in Mercer's guard and throws a big left but Mercer blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mercer wants to sweep here but Vee controlling him for the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Clay Mercer hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Mercer moves out of range as Vee strikes.
Vee keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vee fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Mercer looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Vee keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Mercer.
Vee shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mercer defends it nicely.
Vee lands with a cross.
Vee jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Vee tests Mercer's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Vee uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

It looks like Clay Mercer has been cut.
Mercer misses with a series of wild punches.
Mercer tries to clinch up but Vee circles away and keeps his distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vee misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Vee connects with the punch.
Vee throws out a loose jab but Mercer uses good head movement to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Vee shoots in and drives through. Mercer sprawls well.
Good exchange - Vee coming out on top.
Mercer tries to clinch but Vee is having none of it.
Vee throws a looping overhand right but Mercer ducks down to avoid it.
Mercer takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Mercer scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Vee with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mercer to score with a decent uppercut.
Vee moves out of range of the body kick from Mercer.

Tesco Vee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mercer misses the shot to the body.
Mercer looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Tesco Vee is winning the standup battle so far.
Mercer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Vee paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Vee is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mercer walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Vee checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A looping hook to the body misses from Vee. Mercer does a little dance to reset his feet.

Vee throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Mercer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Vee fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mercer feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Vees jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Mercer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Vee scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Vee.

Vee darts in and clinches Mercer up against the cage.
Vee lands a hook that snaps the head of Mercer backwards.

A nice glancing elbow lands by Vee.
Mercer is still on wobbly legs! Can Vee finish him?
Vee dips a shoulder and cracks Mercer with a mighty uppercut! Mercer falls back against the cage and Vee unloads with a barrage of strikes! Mercer is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Vee screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
