PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Falcon Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Ray Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phoenix tries to clinch
and Silva makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Silva gets the takedown into side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Phoenix is trying to get back to half guard.
Phoenix really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Phoenix wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Phoenix looks to move to half guard but instead Silva has passed into mount! Damn!
Phoenix tries to lock up and control but Silva gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Silva stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Silva shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Phoenix as he avoids it easily.

Silva forces Phoenix back against the cage and clinches.
Phoenix gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Silva.
Silva is working for takedown but Phoenix is calmly controlling the position for now.
Falcon Phoenix has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ray Ray Silva.

Silva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Phoenix is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.
Phoenix shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Silva scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Phoenix to see if he's OK.
Phoenix tries to bench press Silva off him but Silva keeps the position.
Silva is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Silva wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Phoenix, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Silva decides to stand back up. Silva steps back and let's Phoenix get back to his feet.

and Silva counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Phoenix defends it nicely.
Silva avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Phoenix shoots for a takedown but Silva saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Phoenix is breathing heavily.
Phoenix fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Silva is trying hard to land a takedown here. Phoenix sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Silva looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Silva is trying to control. Phoenix wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Silva escapes and gets back to his feet.
Silva throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Phoenix sprawls well. Phoenix wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.
Nice body kick there by Phoenix.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silva moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Phoenix fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Phoenix tries to score a power double leg takedown but Silva sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Phoenix somewhat.

Silva has closed the distance and engaged Phoenix in a clinch.

Phoenix ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Phoenix no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Phoenix has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Phoenix is controlling Silva's posture.
Phoenix will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Phoenix drops down looking for an ankle pick but Silva pulls his leg out and moves away.

Ray Ray Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Silva counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Phoenix is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Silva changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Phoenix tries to avoid it but Silva manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Phoenix to the ground. Phoenix escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ray Ray Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
