PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Esko Jazz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jabuba Mbele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jazz's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, AC/DC - Back in Black. Jabuba Mbele will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Esko Jazz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jabuba Mbele!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Valeri Chadov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mbele fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jazz misses with the combination.
Mbele is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jazz tries to clinch but Mbele moves out of range.
Mbele avoids the body shot from Jazz.
Jazz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mbele fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Esko Jazz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jabuba Mbele.
Mbele throws a sloppy head kick and Jazz moves out of range easily.
Mbele looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Mbele closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jazz is looking for a sweep. Mbele is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jazz works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jazz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mbele regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Jazz.

Mbele escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jazz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jazz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mbele wants to sweep but no luck.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jazz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jazz lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mbele has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jazz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jazz throws a head kick but Mbele moves out of range.

Esko Jazz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jazz is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mbele's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mbele's back!

Mbele shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Jazz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Mbele is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jazz's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Mbele keeping moving, preventing Jazz from controlling successfully.
Jazz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mbele swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jazz pushes down on Mbele's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Jazz slips a nice elbow through Mbele's hands, connecting with Mbele's forehead.

Jazz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jazz connects with a nice short shot to Mbele's temple.

Well Jazz has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
