PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jens Pulver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dingle Cool (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jens Pulver !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dingle Cool!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pulver looks to clinch

and Cool counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cool.

Pulver 's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pulver misses with a takedown attempt - Cool sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Cool fails with a takedown attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Pulver .
Pulver is looking to take a break and control but Cool is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pulver thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cool slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Pulver wants to improve his position but instead Cool has moved into half guard.

Pulver wants to control the action here but instead Cool manages to pass to full mount!
Cool trying to control but Pulver is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cool looking for a guillotine from mount but Pulver is having none of it.

Pulver might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Cool escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pulver gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Pulver lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cool tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pulver is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Cool closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pulver circles away.
No luck for Pulver with that takedown attempt.

Cool looking to score a takedown here. Pulver is defending well but Cool drives through and ends up in Pulver 's guard.

Cool throwing strikes from guard but Pulver blocks nicely.
Cool is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pulver wants to stand but Cool is controlling the position.

Cool sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pulver 's guard.
Pulver tries to roll over but Cool keeps him under control.
Cool missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Pulver wants to get back to his feet.
Jens Pulver overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cool decides to stand up.
Pulver is looking to clinch.
Cool changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pulver tries to avoid it but Cool manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pulver to the ground. Pulver escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Cool drives through and clinches with Pulver against the cage.
Pulver tries for a takedown but Cool manages to get underhooks.

Pulver looking to slow down the pace here.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Pulver is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Jens Pulver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dingle Cool.
Cool is looking to take this one to the mat.
Cool tries to break the clinch but Pulver is controlling the position.
Cool is breathing heavily.
Pulver tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cool smiles and moves away.
Cool tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pulver paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Pulver feints a jab promting Cool to slip. Pulver then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Cool slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pulver scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cool doesn't seem bothered though.

Pulver shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cool as he avoids it easily.
Pulver takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Cool misses with a takedown
and Pulver counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Cool moves out of range as Pulver throws a body kick.
Pulver moves out of range of the body kick.
Cool fails with a takedown attempt.
Cool stuffs the takedown attempt from Pulver . Pulver gets slowly back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pulver tries to clinch up but Cool circles away and keeps his distance.
Pulver misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pulver throws a shot from downtown. Cool moves away and avoids it.
Pulver tries to close the distance and clinch but Cool swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Pulver gets a clinch.
Pulver is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Cool tries to pull guard but Pulver forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pulver is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Pulver tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cool smiles and moves away.
Cool misses with a wild combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dingle Cool will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Pulver tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Cool manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pulver shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cool pinned against the cage. Cool gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Cool counters with a nice uppercut.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Cool lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Pulver has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Pulver and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Pulver avoids a kick to the body.
Pulver fails to land the takedown.
Pulver lands with a thumping leg kick.
Cool fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pulver dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Cool. That did some damage!

Cool chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Pulver can pounce on him.
Pulver scores with a one two! Cool had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Pulver pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Cool gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Pulver is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cool to keep the fight standing.

Nice takedown defense from Pulver . No joy for Cool on that attempt.
Pulver shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cool sprawls well. Cool wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pulver gets slowly back to his feet.
Cool doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Pulver counters with a big head kick but Cool shrugs it off.

and Pulver counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Pulver trying to control the position from guard on top but Cool is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cool throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Cool looking for a sweep. Not yet Cool, not yet.
Pulver slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Cool tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cool can't do much from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pulver trying to control the action but Cool is working from the bottom.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cool is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Pulver stands up and beckons Cool to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jens Pulver showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Pulver has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
