PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sova Borgia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Christ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sova Borgia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Christ!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksandr Martynov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Christ closes the distance and clinches.
Christ is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Borgia pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Christ pulls Borgia into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Borgia trying to control the position from guard on top but Christ is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Borgia is really struggling to control Christ but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Christ thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Borgia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Christ swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sova Borgia has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
No luck for Borgia with that takedown attempt.

Christ has closed the distance and engaged Borgia in a clinch.

Christ breaks from the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Borgia misses with a series of wild punches.
Borgia shoots for a double leg takedown but Christ sprawls well. He's pushed Borgia's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Christ fails in his attempt to clinch.

Christ looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Borgia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Borgia is looking to control Christ's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Borgia avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Christ thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Borgia's head.
Borgia desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Christ stands up out of the half guard.

Borgia drives through and clinches with Christ against the cage.
Christ is trying to force a seperation but Borgia has the dominant position.
Borgia scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Christ working hard to break the clinch.
Borgia wants to get back to striking at distance but Christ won't allow it.

Christ turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Christ manages to end up in side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Borgia avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Christ.
Borgia wants to control but Christ postures up.
Borgia tries to buck Christ off but Christ is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Borgia's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Borgia might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Christ in side control lands a decent elbow.
Borgia is looking to reverse the position.
Christ in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Christ works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Borgia is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Christ is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Borgia is looking to regain half guard here but Christ keeps moving and retains side control.
Borgia is trying to control Christ's posture but Christ avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Borgia gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Christ is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Borgia is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Christ scores with a couple of nice shots.
Christ has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Borgia controlling the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Christ dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Borgia drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Borgia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Christ on the ground.
Christ tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Borgia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Christ keeps working.

Borgia goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Christ rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Borgia's guard! Nice work there by Christ!
Christ won't allow Borgia to sweep him here.
Borgia is adopting a defensive guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Christ working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Christ stands up over Borgia, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Borgia has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Christ has passed into side control.
Borgia tries to bench press Christ off him but Christ keeps the position.

Christ decides to stand back up. Christ steps back and let's Borgia get back to his feet.
Christ fails with a takedown attempt.
Borgia throws a series of punches but Christ avoids them all with ease.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Christ tries to clinch but Borgia moves out of range.
Borgia looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Borgia swats away the attempt to clinch by Christ.
Borgia circles away from the clinch attempt
and Borgia counters with a two punch combo.
Borgia throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Borgia will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nice takedown defense from Borgia. No joy for Christ on that attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Borgia tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Christ tries to clinch but Borgia is having none of it.
Borgia throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Christ.
Sova Borgia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Christ gets tackled into the cage by Borgia. Borgia maintains the clinch.

Christ manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Borgia throws a strike but Christ rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Christ trying to control the position from guard on top but Borgia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Christ throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Borgia works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Borgia wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Christ is now in half guard.

Christ is looking to take a break and control but Borgia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
John Christ has got the better of the ground game so far.
Borgia wants to get back to full guard but Christ has passed into side control.
Borgia is looking to reverse the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sova Borgia will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

John Christ seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Christ fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Borgia avoids it really well and circles away.

Borgia closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Borgia lands in his opponent's guard.

Christ is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Christ is trying to break the clinch but Borgia is controlling him.

Christ has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Borgia is trying to keep an underhook but Christ manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Borgia is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Borgia on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Borgia tries to get out of the position.

Borgia wants to control but Christ postures up.
Christ throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Borgia tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Christ wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Christ scores with a couple of short elbows.
Check out the look on Christ's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Borgia is trying to get back to half guard.

Christ tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Borgia tries to buck Christ off but Christ is having none of it.
Christ moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Borgia tries to improve position but can't.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Borgia can't do much from the bottom here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sova Borgia.
I think Borgia has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
