Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sterling Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hey Zues!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zues fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Nice shot by Slater.
Slater fails with a takedown attempt.
Zues buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Nice shot lands for Slater.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Zues tries to clinch up.
Slater scores with a jab.

Slater shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Zues looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Slater in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Slater looking to pass the guard.
Zues is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Zues is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Zues wants to stand but Slater is controlling the position.

Slater throws a big elbow that misses.
Slater pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Zues is keeping the position for now.
Slater missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Slater throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Zues trying to keep a closed guard but Slater is proving a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Hey Zues was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Slater closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Slater lands in his opponent's guard.
Slater loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Zues manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Slater manages to get himself to full guard.

Zues not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Slater is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slater is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Zues is controlling him.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Sterling Slater wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Slater gets a takedown into half guard.
Slater missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Zues is trying to stand.
Zues avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Slater.
Slater thows a huge punch but Zues dodges it nicely.
Slater thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Zues's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slater sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Zues defending well though.
Zues looks like he's trying to stand up.
Zues should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Slater thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Slater is trying for a kimura here. Zues looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Slater wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sterling Slater!
Our winner, Sterling Slater, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
