PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anatoliy Lapikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Meeoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lapikov comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - Hells Bells . Meeoff has chosen bawitaba as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anatoliy Lapikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 20 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jack Meeoff!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Dean Styles and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meeoff lands with a nice combination. Lapikov backs away looking to recover.
Lapikov swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lapikov throws a right hand that misses
and Meeoff counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Meeoff tries to clinch up.
Meeoff swinging wildly here.

Meeoff forces Lapikov back against the cage and clinches.

Meeoff manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Lapikov postures up.
Lapikov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Meeoff is keeping the position for now.
Lapikov wants to control from the top but Meeoff keeps moving.
Lapikov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Meeoff is looking for a triangle but Lapikov pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lapikov throwing strikes from guard but Meeoff blocks nicely.

Meeoff escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lapikov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Meeoff trying to keep a closed guard but Lapikov is proving a slippery customer.
Lapikov lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Meeoff bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lapikov's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lapikov is looking to sweep but instead, Meeoff has passed into half guard.
Lapikov is looking to control Meeoff's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lapikov avoid being mounted?
Lapikov is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Meeoff looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lapikov is trying to control but can't.

Meeoff is working for a submission of some sort.
Meeoff is thwarting Lapikov's attempts to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lapikov moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Lapikov looking for a sweep. Not yet Lapikov, not yet.
Meeoff wants to control from the top but Lapikov keeps moving.
Lapikov controls Meeoff momentarily but Meeoff frees himself.
Meeoff trying to control the position from guard on top but Lapikov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Meeoff postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lapikov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Meeoff, into his guard.

Meeoff has momentary wrist control but Lapikov slips an elbow through the middle.
Lapikov trying to control the position from guard on top but Meeoff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Meeoff preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Lapikov won't allow Meeoff to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Lapikov throws a big right hand that misses.

Meeoff looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Meeoff dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lapikov throws a big shot that misses.
Meeoff uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Lapikov.
Horrible takedown by Meeoff or perhaps it was just good defense by Lapikov which made him look bad.
Meeoff misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Lapikov is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Meeoff.
Lapikov showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Meeoff.
Lapikov throws a right hand that Meeoff ducks under and follows up with a left that Meeoff also avoids with ease.

and Meeoff counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Meeoff avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Anatoliy Lapikov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Meeoff shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lapikov pinned against the cage. Lapikov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Anatoliy Lapikov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Meeoff.
Lapikov misses with a looping right.
Jack Meeoff is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Meeoff misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Lapikov gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Lapikov keeps control of Meeoff as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Lapikov tries to throw a body punch but Meeoff avoids it by throwing Lapikov back against the cage.

Lapikov tries to work over Meeoff's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Lapikov effectively controlling the action here.
Lapikov drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Meeoff gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Meeoff has Lapikov pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Meeoff pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Lapikov tumbling to the mat - Meeoff dives into Lapikov's guard.

Meeoff has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Lapikov should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Meeoff has tightened it up now! Lapikov should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
