Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Pattis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anthony Pattis could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Frankie Edgar's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Pattis!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frankie Edgar!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar slaps away a takedown attempt from Pattis, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Pattis throws a combination. Edgar tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Pattis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Edgar pinned against the cage. Edgar gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Edgar shoots in for a takedown but Pattis shows good takedown defense.
Edgar leaves Pattis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Pattis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pattis is looking to clinch.
Edgar shoots in and drives through. Pattis sprawls well.
Pattis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Edgar tries to avoid it but Pattis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Edgar to the ground. Edgar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Pattis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Pattis tries to clinch up but Edgar circles away and keeps his distance.
Edgar shoots in but no luck this time.

Edgar tries for a takedown but Pattis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Edgar manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pattis on his heels. He'll look to pass Pattis's guard now, I'm sure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pattis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Edgar drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pattis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Edgar has Pattis in his guard.

Edgar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pattis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pattis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Pattis looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Pattis is looking to take a break and control but Edgar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Edgar is looking to improve his position.

Pattis wants to take a breather but Edgar is having none of it.

Pattis blocks the strikes from Edgar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edgar is not content to let Pattis control the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pattis wants to get back to his feet.
Edgar is trying to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Anthony Pattis wasn't doing enough on the ground.
No luck for Edgar with that takedown attempt.
Edgar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pattis but Pattis pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pattis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Edgar circles away.

Pattis tries for a takedown but Edgar sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Edgar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Pattis regains full guard. Nicely done.
Edgar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Pattis is breathing heavily.
Pattis keeping moving, preventing Edgar from controlling successfully.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Edgar pushing down on Pattis's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Edgar seems to be looking for submissions.
Pattis is looking to control Edgar's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pattis avoid being mounted?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Frankie Edgar will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pattis with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Edgar to score with a decent uppercut.

Edgar manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pattis on his heels. He'll look to pass Pattis's guard now, I'm sure.

Edgar drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pattis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pattis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pattis!
Edgar gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Edgar is trying to reverse the position but instead Pattis has taken his back - oops!
Edgar is keeping busy.
Edgar just trying to survive but Pattis is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Will Pattis go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Pattis has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Edgar prevents Pattis from getting a body triangle.
Edgar can't escape the position.
Edgar manages to reverse the position and now he's in Pattis's guard. Nice work there by Edgar.

Pattis looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Edgar is defending well. Pattis quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Edgar has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Pattis celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
