Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Grimly Fiendish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Romano Schoots!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fiendish tries to close the distance and clinch but Schoots swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jab by Schoots.
Fiendish jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Schoots darts in and clinches Fiendish up against the cage.
Fiendish is looking for a takedown.
Schoots misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A shot in the inside from Schoots.
Schoots is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Fiendish breaks the clinch.
Schoots swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Schoots misses with a low kick.
Schoots defending well as Fiendish loads up on a big left hand.
Schoots throws a looping overhand right but Fiendish ducks down to avoid it.
Schoots fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fiendish manages to avoid it.
Fiendish takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Schoots ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fiendish moves away.

Schoots is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Fiendish.
Schoots lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Romano Schoots is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Schoots looks to score with a jab to the body but Fiendish is just out of range.
Fiendish bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Schoots's head backwards.
Romano Schoots seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schoots tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fiendish paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Fiendish counters with a straight right hand.
Fiendish walks into a stiff left hand from Schoots.
Fiendish misses with a jab, cross combination.
Schoots ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fiendish moves away.
Schoots swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fiendish throws an overhand right that lands on Schoots's shoulder, as Schoots tries to avoid the shot.

Schoots pushes Fiendish up against the cage in a clinch.
Fiendish takes a knee right on the jaw!
Fiendish wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Schoots can't find room to land a body shot as Fiendish controls the action.
Schoots tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Schoots takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Fiendish is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Schoots gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Schoots controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Fiendish lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Schoots!

The referee warns Schoots that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Fiendish trying to control but Schoots is having none of it.
Fiendish punching from mount but Schoots doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Fiendish looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Fiendish throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Poor strikes thrown by Fiendish there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Fiendish looking to ground and pound but Schoots is blocking nicely.
Fiendish landing punches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fiendish wants to control the action but instead Schoots gets a body lock and reverses into Fiendish's guard! Nice work!
Fiendish is controlling Schoots's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schoots is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Grimly Fiendish will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Schoots gets a clinch.
Schoots swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Schoots working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Schoots lands with a light punch inside.
Fiendish blocks a body shot from Schoots.
Fiendish looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Fiendish working a defensive guard but Schoots manages to pass into side control anyway.

Schoots's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Fiendish tries to bench press Schoots off him but Schoots keeps the position.
Fiendish wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Schoots wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fiendish keeps working.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Romano Schoots wasn't active enough on the ground.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Schoots scores with a nice right hand.
Fiendish throws a looping overhand right but Schoots ducks down to avoid it.

Schoots throws the left hand but Fiendish avoids the punch easily.
Schoots paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Fiendish fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Schoots manages to avoid it.
Fiendish moves forwards but Schoots connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Schoots throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fiendish dodges the punch combination from Schoots.

Fiendish breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fiendish tries for a takedown but Schoots sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Schoots tries to clinch up but Fiendish circles away and keeps his distance.

and Schoots takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Romano Schoots showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Fiendish swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Schoots uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Schoots has Fiendish pressed against the cage, preventing Fiendish from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Fiendish blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
A body shot lands from Schoots.
Schoots swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Schoots is pressed up against the cage. Fiendish has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Schoots down to the mat. Schoots avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Fiendish wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Schoots has him pressed against the cage.
Fiendish tries to score a body lock takedown but Schoots shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grimly Fiendish. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Schoots stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Fiendish is looking to control Schoots's arms but Schoots gets an underhook and turns him. Now Fiendish has his back to the cage.

Schoots lands a hook that snaps the head of Fiendish backwards.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Schoots lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fiendish is trying to force a seperation but Schoots has the dominant position.

Romano Schoots comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Schoots has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
