PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brad Willmott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Hadjiev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brad Willmott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Hadjiev!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Willmott misses.
Brad Willmott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Willmott fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hadjiev to the ground. Willmott is now in Hadjiev's guard.
Willmott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hadjiev swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hadjiev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hadjiev can do anything to dispel that myth.

Willmott got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hadjiev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Willmott has managed to get both his arms back between Hadjiev's legs - danger averted.

Willmott throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Willmott wants to control from the top but Hadjiev keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Brad Willmott.
Willmott tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hadjiev sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Willmott somewhat.

Willmott stuffs the takedown.

Willmott fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hadjiev to the ground. Willmott is now in Hadjiev's guard.
Willmott wants to control from the top but Hadjiev keeps moving.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hadjiev holds on and takes a little breather.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Willmott shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Willmott was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Hadjiev manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Willmott throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Willmott wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hadjiev keeps working.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hadjiev is controlling Willmott's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hadjiev.
Willmott shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Willmott throws a one two combo.
Willmott fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hadjiev avoids it really well and circles away.
Hadjiev stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brad Willmott. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hadjiev closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Willmott quickly recovers to half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hadjiev wants to control the pace but Willmott is squirming around nicely.
Hadjiev scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee warns Willmott that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Hadjiev is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Willmott can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Hadjiev wants to control the pace but Willmott is squirming around nicely.
Willmott wants to control but Hadjiev is having none of it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Willmott is working hard here to advance position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hadjiev avoids the attempt from Willmott to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Hadjiev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Willmott shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hadjiev pinned against the cage. Hadjiev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Willmott misses with a takedown attempt - Hadjiev sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hadjiev changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Willmott looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hadjiev keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Willmott's head.

Willmott is trying to control the position but Hadjiev postures up.
Hadjiev lands a couple of digs.

Hadjiev distracts Willmott with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Hadjiev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hadjiev has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
