Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jose Mendoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tony Smith!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mendoza.
Smith misses with a body shot.
No luck for Mendoza with that takedown attempt.
Smith throws a hook but Mendoza avoids it easily.

Smith pushes Mendoza up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith presses Mendoza against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Smith drags the fight down to the ground.

Smith had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mendoza defends it easily.

Mendoza has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendoza doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendoza manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jose Mendoza.

Smith stands and throws Mendoza's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smith decides to stand back up. Smith steps back and let's Mendoza get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tony Smith wasn't active enough on the ground.

Smith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mendoza's half guard.

Smith bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Mendoza's head.
Mendoza tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.

Smith shoots in looking for a takedown. Mendoza tries to sprawl out of it but Smith keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mendoza manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Smith moves into the clinch.
Mendoza is trying to pull guard but Smith has him pressed against the cage.

Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Mendoza on that attempt.
Smith looks to land a combination but Mendoza avoids it well.

and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Mendoza fights it but they end up in guard.

Mendoza is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Tony Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Smith closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Smith takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Mendoza has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Smith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
