PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Bowens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fahad Joudeh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joudeh has chosen Vinnie Paz - Razor Gloves as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Bowens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fahad Joudeh!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowens throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Joudeh.
Joudeh fails in his attempt to clinch.
Joudeh swats away the attempt to clinch by Bowens.
Joudeh shoots in looking for a takedown but Bowens manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Joudeh's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bowens's jab looks to have found its range, popping Joudeh under the eye.
Bowens fails in his attempt to clinch.
Joudeh avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bowens misses with a takedown attempt - Joudeh sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Bowens has taken the fight to the clinch.

Bowens manages to pull guard.

Bowens has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Joudeh is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bowens.
Bowens wants to get back to his feet but Joudeh drags him back down.

Joudeh is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bowens has escaped the position, nice work there.
Bowens is trying to work for a sweep but Joudeh has mounted him!
Bowens looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Bowens has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Joudeh patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Bowens is trying to break free.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bowens is working hard here to advance position.
Joudeh is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Joudeh gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Joudeh gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Joudeh apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Bowens.
Bowens throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bowens stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bowens wants it to stay on the feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bowens stuffs the takedown.
James Bowens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fahad Joudeh.
Bowens thumps Joudeh with a low kick.
Bowens moves in looking to clinch but Joudeh pushes him off.
Bowens throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bowens fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bowens will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Joudeh feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bowens is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bowens is breathing heavily.
Joudeh controls from within his opponent's guard.
Joudeh distracts Bowens with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Bowens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bowens can't keep his opponent in guard - Joudeh advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Bowens is trying to stand up here but Joudeh is controlling him well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Joudeh working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Bowens is looking to escape.
Joudeh keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Bowens wants to get back to full guard but Joudeh has passed into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bowens looking for a sweep but Joudeh has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Joudeh dominating with strikes here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Joudeh looking to control and managing it successfully.
Bowens is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Fahad Joudeh will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Joudeh closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Bowens looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Bowens won't allow Joudeh to pass to mount.
Bowens avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Joudeh.
Bowens is refusing to be controlled, as Joudeh sits in half guard.
Joudeh wants to stand up but Bowens is controlling the position.
Bowens is trying to stand back up but Joudeh is controlling him

Bowens is not content to let Joudeh control the position.

Bowens kicks Joudeh off and gets back to his feet.
Joudeh rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Bowens counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Bowens misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Joudeh throws a nice looking combination but Bowens bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Joudeh shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bowens as he jumps to the side.

Bowens feints and as Joudeh raises his hands in defense, Bowens changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Joudeh looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bowens is one step ahead there.

Bowens loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Joudeh looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Joudeh keeping full guard, as Bowens tries to pass.
Joudeh controlling the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bowens tries to free his leg and advance position but Joudeh is retaining full guard.
Bowens trying to control the position from guard on top but Joudeh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bowens slaps away a takedown attempt from Joudeh, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Bowens tries to clinch but Joudeh moves out of range.
James Bowens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bowens drives through and clinches with Joudeh against the cage.

Bowens successfully pulls guard.
Bowens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Joudeh connects with a couple of short punches.
Joudeh slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Joudeh postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Joudeh wants to control from the top but Bowens keeps moving.
Joudeh with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Joudeh got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bowens has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Joudeh has managed to get both his arms back between Bowens's legs - danger averted.
Joudeh wants to control from the top but Bowens keeps moving.
Joudeh trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Joudeh distracts Bowens with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Joudeh has gone for a leg lock! Bowens slips out almost immediately though and dives into Joudeh's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Fahad Joudeh will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Bowens fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Joudeh to the ground. Bowens is now in Joudeh's guard.

Bowens wants to lay and pray for a moment but Joudeh keeps working.
Joudeh regains full guard. Nicely done.
Bowens throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Joudeh works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Joudeh looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bowens is one step ahead there.
Bowens's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Bowens trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bowens is trying hard to land a takedown here. Joudeh sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Joudeh shoots in and bounces Bowens off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bowens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Fahad Joudeh.

Bowens closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Joudeh did well to prevent Bowens getting side control.
Joudeh tries to roll over but Bowens keeps him under control.
Fahad Joudeh is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Joudeh desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Bowens wants to lay and pray for a moment but Joudeh keeps working.
James Bowens has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bowens is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Joudeh still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Joudeh has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to James Bowens.
I think Joudeh has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
