PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tony Sugato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matsutatsu Matsui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tony Sugato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matsutatsu Matsui!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matsui moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Sugato lands with an uppercut that bounces Matsui off the cage and back into range.


Matsui is rocked!
Matsui misses with a body shot.
Matsui is still on wobbly legs! Can Sugato finish him?
Sugato fails to land the takedown.
The fight stays on the outside here - Matsui looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Matsui seems to have recovered his senses.
Sugato will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sugato lands a left and a right that send Matsui crashing to the mat, dazed. Sugato thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sugato will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Matsui.
Sugato shoots in looking for a takedown but Matsui manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sugato's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Sugato. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sugato fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sugato lands with a right hand.
Sugato shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Matsui as he jumps to the side.
Matsui fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sugato avoids it really well and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sugato looks to land a right hand but Matsui moved out of range.
Sugato scores with a crisp jab that stopped Matsui in his tracks.
Matsui fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Matsui is trying desperately to land a takedown but Sugato is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Matsui.
Sugato takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Sugato missing with a left hand there. Matsui was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Sugato connects with the punch.
Matsui takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Tony Sugato seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sugato throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Matsui's waist but Matsui gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sugato off to one side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Matsui tries to pull guard but Sugato won't allow it.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Matsui tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sugato smiles and moves away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Matsui moves in looking to clinch but Sugato pushes him off.
Sugato shoots for a double leg takedown but Matsui sprawls well. He's pushed Sugato's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Matsui lands with a kick to the temple. Sugato shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Sugato thuds his right hand into Matsui's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Sugato tries to score a power double leg takedown but Matsui sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sugato somewhat.
Sugato tries for a takedown but Matsui sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Matsui defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sugato.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sugato connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Matsui moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Matsui shoots in but no luck this time.
Sugato tries for a takedown but Matsui sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Matsui on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Matsui takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Matsui dives in and scores a takedown into Sugato's guard.
Matsui is standing up over Sugato. Sugato looks to escape but Matsui dives into side control.
Sugato is breathing heavily.
Sugato trying to remain calm as Matsui controls from the top position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sugato looking for a sweep but Matsui has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Matsui manages to capitalize on a mistake by Sugato to take his back!
Sugato is in bad spot here.

Sugato is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sugato is working hard here to advance position.
Sugato is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Matsui.
Sugato looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Matsui has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Sugato! Can he survive? No! He's out! Matsui gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Matsutatsu Matsui!
