PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sandy Hook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sandy Hook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joseph Reyes!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Reed Andrews and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reyes blocks a head kick by Hook.
Reyes tries a head kick but it misses.
Reyes feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hooks jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Hook checks a low kick from Reyes.
Reyes keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Reyes lands a nice shot to the body.
Hook tries to clinch but Reyes is having none of it.
Hook just misses with a punch to the body.
Hook tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Reyes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Reyes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hook closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Reyes quickly recovers to half guard.
Reyes is staying active underneath Hook, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hook trying to pass the guard but Reyes defending well.

Hook trying to control from half guard but Reyes is working away.
Reyes tries to kick Hook off but Hook keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hook is trying to control the action in half guard but Reyes is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Sandy Hook has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Reyes misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hook could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Reyes tries to keep at a distance but Hook has taken the fight into the clinch.

Hook manages to break the clinch.
Reyes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Reyes looks to land a combination but Hook avoids it well.
Reyes misses with a two punch combination.

Hook darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hook tries to stand but can't do so whilst Reyes controls his leg.
Well, if Hook is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Hook is looking for a kimura here.

Reyes scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Hook manages to mount him!
Reyes is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hook landing strikes from the mount.
Reyes has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Hook biding his time, looking for the opening.
Reyes is trying to get back to his feet but Hook has full control of the position and if anything, Reyes has just worked his way into a worse spot.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hook has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Reyes has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Good control from Hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sandy Hook dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Reyes stuffs the takedown.
Reyes blocks the body kick.
Reyes lands with a straight right. Hook didn't see that one coming.
Reyes scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Reyes lands a two punch combo.
Reyes is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Reyes smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Reyes connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hook momentarily.
Sandy Hook is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Reyes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Reyes misses with a double jab.
Joseph Reyes seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Reyes connects with a nice looking jab.

Hook darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Reyes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hook. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hook tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Hook is pressing down on Reyes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Reyes is holding on for now.
Hook stops Reyes from getting back to his feet.
Sandy Hook overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hook is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Reyes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hook.
Reyes tries to kick Hook off but Hook keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Hook is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Reyes defends it well.
Reyes is trying to stand.
It looks like Hook is going to stand back up.

Hook is working for a submission of some sort.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reyes is trying to stand up here but Hook is controlling him well.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hook lands a nice short elbow.
Reyes is looking to get back to is feet but Hook passes into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hook wants to stand but Reyes has his arm trapped.
Hook throws a strike aimed at the side of Reyes's head but Reyes avoids it well.
Hook working the head and body with strikes.
A lull in the action here.
Reyes is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joseph Reyes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Reyes slaps away a takedown attempt from Hook, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Reyes closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Hook drives through with a takedown into Reyes's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Reyes keeping moving, preventing Hook from controlling successfully.
Reyes wants to stand and escape but Hook is having none of it.

Hook is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Reyes is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Reyes has escaped and now he's on top!
Hook has his hands on Reyes's head, controlling the position.

Hook utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Reyes passes Hook's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Reyes lands with a punch from half guard.

Reyes seems to be looking for submissions.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hook trying to control from the bottom.
Ground and pound from Reyes.
Reyes seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Hook looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Reyes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hook doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Reyes.
Hook makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hook.
Hook is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hook lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Reyes!

Reyes has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Reyes looking very determined here, making life difficult for Hook.

Hook looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Reyes taps!
