Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miyamoto Usagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miyamoto Usagi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Shields!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Shields thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Usagi's head.
Shields is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Usagi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shields manages to get himself to full guard.

Shields shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Usagi's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Usagi has his foot on Shields's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shields works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Shields shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Usagi pinned against the cage. Usagi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shields had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Usagi is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Shields Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Usagi's back instead.
Shields is breathing heavily.
Shields is trying to stick to Usagi's back but Usagi is turning into Shields. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Shields's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Usagi.
