Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shio Sakaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shio Sakaki will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aaron Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shio Sakaki!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shirou Masuda and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cross tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sakaki swivels and escapes.
Sakaki fails with the takedown.
Sakaki connects with a body shot that sends Cross's belly button to the back.
Sakaki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cross tries to avoid it but Sakaki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cross to the ground. Cross escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sakaki closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cross circles away.
Aaron Cross has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shio Sakaki.

and Cross counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Sakaki!
Sakaki is not content to let Cross control the position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sakaki is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cross sees it coming and defends easily.
Sakaki seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Cross pushes Sakaki off looking to stand but Sakaki dives back in and keeps control.

Cross is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Sakaki is working for a kimura but Cross is defending it quite comfortably.
Cross could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Sakaki wants to pass the guard but Cross is defending well.
Cross on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cross tries to get out of the position.
Cross is looking to control Sakaki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cross avoid being mounted?
Cross keeping hold of Sakaki's head, controlling as best he can.

We're going to have a standup here because Aaron Cross wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cross.
Sakaki misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sakaki leaves Cross with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sakaki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cross's waist but Cross gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sakaki off to one side.

Cross tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sakaki swivels and escapes.
Cross shoots in but no luck this time.
Sakaki shoots for a double leg takedown but Cross sprawls well. He's pushed Sakaki's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sakaki shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cross but Cross pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sakaki shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cross sprawls well. Cross wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sakaki gets slowly back to his feet.

Cross shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sakaki manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sakaki looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Cross passes into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aaron Cross dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sakaki works over Cross's head and body with a nice combination.
Sakaki shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cross pinned against the cage. Cross gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sakaki throws a head kick but Cross moves out of range.
Cross tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sakaki swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cross shoots for a takedown but Sakaki saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cross throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sakaki throws the kick towards the body but Cross avoids it.

Cross drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sakaki doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Cross has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Cross stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sakaki swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aaron Cross overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sakaki utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Cross seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Aaron Cross just wasn't active enough.
Cross circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sakaki tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Cross manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Cross shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sakaki defends it nicely.

That was a close second round but I would say that Aaron Cross will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Sakaki closes the distance and clinches up with Cross, looking for a takedown. Sakaki pushes Cross against the cage but Cross circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Sakaki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Cross shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sakaki is trying to defend but Cross finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Cross tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Cross is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Cross knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sakaki on the ground.

Sakaki gets to his feet - Cross follows without any prompting.

Aaron Cross is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cross shoots in looking for a takedown. Sakaki tries to sprawl out of it but Cross keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sakaki manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Shio Sakaki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Aaron Cross is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
A slapping body kick lands there for Sakaki.

And that's the end of the fight!
Aaron Cross showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cross, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
