The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves lands with a straight right. Westwood didn't see that one coming.
Alves connects with a single shot there.
Alves uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Westwood has time to react.
That kick from Alves tenderised Westwood's leg. Westwood is trying to keep his angry face on.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Westwood is looking to sweep but instead, Alves has passed into half guard.

Westwood utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Westwood lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Alves !
Alves slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Alves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Westwood is working away from the top position though.
Westwood tries to pass to full mount but Alves defends it.
Alves tries to roll over but Westwood keeps him under control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Alves makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Alves .

Alves thows a body shot but no joy.
Westwood needs to keep his hands up - Alves had a free shot at his head there.

Alves punishes Westwood's body with a nice straight punch.
Alves 's jab looks to have found its range, popping Westwood under the eye.
Alves is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Westwood.
Westwood avoids the body shot from Alves .
Alves fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Westwood.
Westwood gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Alves .
Renzo Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Alves fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Westwood displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alves throws out the jab.

Westwood has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Alves finds it's way round the side to connect with Westwood's head.
Alves lands a glancing blow to the side of Westwood's head.

Alves closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Westwood is trying to get back to full guard.
Alves moves into full mount! Westwood won't be happy about that!
Alves has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
