PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tarik Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hector Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramirez has chosen Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tarik Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hector Ramirez!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ramirez tries to avoid it but Johnson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ramirez to the ground. Ramirez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Johnson shoots in but no luck this time.
Ramirez swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Johnson.
Johnson wants to clinch up but Ramirez keeps it at a distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Johnson is defended easily by Ramirez.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tarik Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A jab lands there for Ramirez.

Johnson gets a takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Johnson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Ramirez is trying to get back to full guard.
Johnson tries to pass to full mount but Ramirez defends it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ramirez can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ramirez has his hands clasped together around Johnson's back. He's all about the action.
Johnson is looking to take a break and control but Ramirez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Johnson works his foot free and advances to mount.
Ramirez is trying to escape the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson landing strikes, looking to finish!
Johnson lands a big shot there that rocks Ramirez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Johnson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Johnson avoids the attempt from Ramirez to control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Johnson is landing with some decent strikes but Ramirez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Johnson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ramirez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ramirez shrugs it off.
Johnson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ramirez is desperately trying to improve his position but Johnson has a good base and remains in mount.
Ramirez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Johnson scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Ramirez?
Johnson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Johnson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ramirez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Johnson trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Johnson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ramirez has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tarik Johnson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Johnson takes a swing at Ramirez's ribcage but misses.
Ramirez comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Ramirez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Johnson tries to clinch up but Ramirez circles away and keeps his distance.
Ramirez misses with an uppercut.
Nice cross by Ramirez.
Ramirez throws out a loose jab but Johnson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Johnson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Johnson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Johnson shoots in and drives through. Ramirez sprawls well.
Ramirez scores with a one two! Johnson had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Johnson gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Ramirez.

Ramirez drops Johnson with a beautiful combination! Johnson stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Ramirez is looking for the KO!


Johnson is rocked!
Johnson tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Oh Johnson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hector Ramirez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson misses with a wild combination.
Ramirez circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Johnson to the canvas! Johnson doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Ramirez keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hector Ramirez!
Hector Ramirez is the new lightweight champion!
Hector Ramirez looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'Look at whose got the title! Now I can start my hostage on dis division! Thanks for the help, Brunno! HAHAHA! No one can stop me, homie. Just find me a new victim.'.
