PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dan Gable (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Les Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dan Gable!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Les Paul!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Paul closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gable wants to get back to his feet.
Gable tries to improve position but can't.

Paul looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Paul moves into full mount!
Paul misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Gable is looking to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paul throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Gable is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Paul thowing shots but they're missing.
Gable squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Paul looking for a guillotine from mount but Gable is having none of it.
Paul should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Gable tries to hold on but Paul postures up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Paul wants to control the pace but Gable is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Paul thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Gable tries to lock up and control but Paul gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Gable can't escape the position.
Gable throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Gable is desperately trying to improve his position but Paul has a good base and remains in mount.
Paul trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Paul prevents Gable from getting the reversal.

Paul is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gable has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Paul working for a guillotine from mount but Gable is in no mood to give up.
Paul looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gable bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Paul has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gable can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gable is looking to work some ground and pound but Paul has wrist control.

Paul has his foot on Gable's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gable works his way back into a safe position though.
Gable controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Paul looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gable decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Paul fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Gable throws a nice looking combination but Paul bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gable tries to close the distance and clinch but Paul swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gable misses with a body kick.
Paul looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Paul looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Paul stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gable swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Paul forces his way into half guard.

Paul is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Paul looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Les Paul dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A punch combination from Gable misses.

Paul scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Gable tries to roll over but Paul keeps him under control.
Gable wants to control but Paul is keeping busy.
Paul is looking to take a break and control but Gable is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gable is trying to stand back up but Paul is controlling him
Paul is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Paul is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Paul is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Paul pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gable is keeping the position for now.
Gable is looking to stand up but Paul isn't so interested in that idea.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Good standup being displayed there by Gable as he connects with a hook.
Gable connects with a single shot there.
Gable misses with a few strikes there.
No luck for Paul with that takedown attempt.
Jab by Gable.
Paul misses with a takedown attempt - Gable sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Paul shoots in for a double leg but Gable sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Dan Gable has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Les Paul.
Paul takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Paul closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Paul lands in his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Paul drops back looking for a leg! Gable is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gable manages to kick Paul off! Paul jumps back into Gable's guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Gable keeping moving, preventing Paul from controlling successfully.
Paul advances to half guard.
Gable is trying to control but Paul passes into side control!

Paul is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gable knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Paul has an Americana. Gable didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Paul is delighted and gyrates infront of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Paul hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
