The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hicks feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hicks has his foot on St Pierre's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. St Pierre works his way back into a safe position though.

Hicks had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. St Pierre is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hicks Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take St Pierre's back instead.
Hicks really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for St Pierre.

St Pierre is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Hicks controlling the positon.

Hicks has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but St Pierre can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

St Pierre's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hicks looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
St Pierre looks for a takedown but Hicks sprawls well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

St Pierre shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hicks's guard.
