PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danny Wait (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wait kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Danger Zone. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Danny Wait!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Coleman!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wait throws a right and a left that both miss.

Coleman closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Wait quickly recovers to half guard.
Wait wants to get back to his feet.
Wait really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Wait is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Coleman scores with a couple of nice shots.
Coleman is controlling the pace.
Wait tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Coleman manages to move to mount!
Coleman with shots to the head and body - Wait looks very uncomfortable down there.

Coleman gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Coleman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wait's guard.
Coleman passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Coleman prevents Wait from escaping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Coleman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Coleman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Coleman stands up and beckons Wait to his feet.
Danny Wait is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wait throws a series of punches but Coleman avoids them all with ease.
Coleman showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Wait.

Coleman closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wait did well to prevent Coleman getting side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Coleman seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Coleman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Coleman stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Wait is breathing heavily.

Coleman feints and as Wait raises his hands in defense, Coleman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Coleman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Coleman lands a couple of digs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Coleman dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Coleman is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Coleman takes one to the chin there.
Coleman looks to land a body kick but Wait moved away.
Coleman staying out of range there.
Coleman doesn't manage to clinch there - Wait circles away.

Coleman dives in and scores a takedown into Wait's guard.
Coleman passes Wait's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Coleman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Let's hope that Coleman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jake Coleman hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Wait lunges at Coleman with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Coleman's hand.
Wait throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Coleman looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Wait!

Coleman advances to mount.
Coleman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Coleman is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Wait is forced to tap! Great finish!
