PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Fenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walt Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Simon Fenix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Walt Kowalski!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalski shoots for a double leg takedown but Fenix sprawls well. He's pushed Kowalski's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kowalski shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fenix pinned against the cage. Fenix gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fenix walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Fenix misses with a low kick.
Nice takedown defense from Fenix. No joy for Kowalski on that attempt.
Simon Fenix has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walt Kowalski.
Kowalski fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fenix manages to avoid it.

Fenix closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Fenix lands in his opponent's guard.

Kowalski looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Fenix passes into half guard.
Kowalski regains full guard. Nicely done.

Fenix won't allow Kowalski to sweep him here.
Fenix stands and throws Kowalski's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kowalski trying to remain calm as Fenix controls from the top position.
Kowalski is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Fenix looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Kowalski manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fenix throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kowalski works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kowalski has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fenix can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Kowalski controls Fenix momentarily but Fenix frees himself.
Fenix trying to control but Kowalski is working from the bottom.
Kowalski has his hands on Fenix's head, controlling the position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Fenix loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kowalski working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fenix doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fenix manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kowalski is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Kowalski has his foot on Fenix's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fenix works his way back into a safe position though.

Fenix stands up from Kowalski's guard - Fenix perhaps looking for a knockout.

Fenix changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kowalski looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Kowalski trying to control but Fenix flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Kowalski turns into Fenix and is now in his guard.
Fenix looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Fenix wants to improve his position but instead Kowalski has moved into half guard.
Kowalski wants to take a breather but Fenix is having none of it.

Kowalski is trying to work for a kimura but Fenix is defending well.
Fenix wants to control but Kowalski is keeping busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kowalski tries to pass to full mount but Fenix defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Walt Kowalski will probably get the nod.
That's time! Fenix's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Fenix tries to control but Kowalski wriggling away.
Kowalski is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Kowalski wants to control but Fenix is having none of it.
Kowalski regains half guard.
Kowalski moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Kowalski tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fenix wants to control from the top but Kowalski keeps moving.

Kowalski is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Walt Kowalski has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fenix looking to pass the guard.
Fenix won't allow Kowalski to sweep him here.

Fenix avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kowalski wants to sweep but no luck.
Fenix trying to control but Kowalski is working from the bottom.
Fenix has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kowalski had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Fenix is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kowalski Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Fenix's back instead.

Kowalski has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Fenix is defending well but eventually Kowalski manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Fenix has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
