Backyard Fighting

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wade Sapp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Momentum Shift!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shift shoots in looking for a takedown. Sapp tries to sprawl out of it but Shift keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sapp manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shift blocks the body kick.
Sapp throws a right hand that misses

and Shift moves into the clinch.
Shift is trying to pull guard but Sapp has him pressed against the cage.

Sapp has Shift pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Sapp pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Shift tumbling to the mat - Sapp dives into Shift's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Shift is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sapp wants to control from the top but Shift keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapp looking to sit in guard and control but Shift gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Sapp throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Sapp wants to sweep here but Shift controlling him for the moment.
Sapp is trying to control the position but Shift postures up.

Shift drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sapp manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shift has Sapp in his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shift postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sapp is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shift, into his guard.
Sapp trying to control the position from guard on top but Shift is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Sapp is pushing down on Shift's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shift is fighting to maintain full guard but Sapp has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shift has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Sapp. Oh but Shift has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Sapp goes limp - he's gone! Shift jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
