Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Raivis Vidzis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Smirnov!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smirnov shoots in looking for a takedown. Vidzis tries to sprawl out of it but Smirnov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vidzis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Vidzis is looking to clinch but Smirnov is avoiding it.
No luck for Smirnov with that takedown attempt.
Smirnov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Raivis Vidzis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vladimir Smirnov.

Smirnov drives through with a takedown into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Vidzis postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Smirnov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Vidzis, into his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vidzis wants to stand up but Smirnov is controlling him.
Smirnov throws an elbow that misses. Vidzis uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Smirnov's guard. Nice move by Vidzis!
Smirnov tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Vidzis postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Vidzis connects with a couple of short punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Vidzis defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Smirnov.

Vidzis with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Smirnov shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vidzis as he avoids it easily.
Smirnov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vidzis.
Raivis Vidzis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Smirnov gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Vidzis to score an easy takedown into full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smirnov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Vidzis cracks Smirnov with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Vidzis doesn't manage to clinch there - Smirnov circles away.

Smirnov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Smirnov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vidzis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Smirnov wants to get back to his feet.

Smirnov seems to be looking for submissions.

Vidzis lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.

Well Vidzis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
